Position Summary:
The Production Technician is responsible for converting raw steel into accurately prepared components for fabrication and assembly. This includes material layout, cutting, drilling, forming, machining, preparation, measurement, equipment operation, and quality verification. Set up, operate, and monitor steel fabrication equipment while preparing and processing material according to fabrication drawings, job specifications, and established production procedures. The Production Technician is responsible for checking their own work before releasing material to the next phase of production.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Equipment Operation:
Set up and safely operate fabrication machinery and equipment, including: CNC plasma cutting equipment Horizontal and vertical band saws Drill presses Magnetic drills Press brakes Ironworkers Grinders and finishing equipment Material handling equipment Forklifts Hand and power tools Other fabrication equipment as trained and authorized
Blueprint & Fabrication Drawing Interpretation:
Perform required equipment inspections before operation. Select appropriate tooling, consumables, speeds, feeds, and machine settings when applicable. Verify machine setup before processing production material. Monitor equipment during operation. Identify abnormal equipment operation or mechanical issues. Immediately report damaged or malfunctioning equipment. Maintain equipment and work areas according to established preventative maintenance and housekeeping procedures.
Material Layout & Preparation:
Measure and mark steel. Lay out cuts and hole locations. Cut structural shapes, tubing, pipe, plate, sheet, bar, and other materials. Drill and prepare holes. Grind and deburr components. Prepare weld joints and edges. Remove mill scale, slag, sharp edges, and contaminants when required. Identify and label fabricated components. Organize completed components by job. Stage prepared material for the next production phase.
