JOB SUMMARY
The Pour Line Operator is responsible for loading, melting and pouring molten metal to create bronze castings in sand molds; requires a sound understanding of metal properties and components, additives, temperature tolerances, pouring techniques and flow dynamics.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Responsible for prepping the pouring area before the melting process begins; includes, but not limited to, starting the dust collector and air make-up units, starting the water pumps and checking all gauges for proper pressure, inspecting the electrical unit for leaks, cleaning the coil and patching it if necessary, maintaining the crucible, etc. Melt and prep metal to correct temperature and metal composition based upon specified levels and production line speed. Clamp molds into place once they have reached the correct position on the pouring line; add argon when needed. Dress and undress with Personal Protective Equipment (leggings, apron, gloves and pouring helmet) each time molten metal is ready to be poured into the molds; pours occur every 15-30 minutes depending upon production time. Operate the crucible handler by simultaneously moving it in three direction in order to position the melting crucible in the correct location during the melting and pouring process. Pour melted metal into mold cavity, recognize the importance to. Apply best practice techniques. Use appropriate tools to clean and reload the melting crucible. Assist with off-line molds several times per week; requires working closely with another Pour Line Operator to pour melted metal into a large mold simultaneously. Clean spilled metal from the front and rear trays on the walking beam. Monitor the conveyor in the cooling tunnel to ensure there are no interruptions in production flow. Perform necessary procedures at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure the industrial dishwasher is ready for use each day.
QUALIFICATIONS
General knowledge of molding terms and the dynamics of the casting and pouring process. Ability to distigusish cause and effect. Assigned job duties and techniques related to successful castings. Must have good hand-eye coordination. Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another, to avoid interruptions in production. Ability to work independently, with little or no supervision. Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills, with an emphasis in time management, improving efficiencies and exercising independent judgment to determine work priority and urgency. General math skills. Must be able to read work orders or production tickets, which may include dimensional drawings. Ability to read a tape measure, imperial and metric. Work as a self-motivated team member who adheres to all safety protocols and is willing to cross-train as needed.
