Job Description

The machine shop manufacturing technician is responsible for supporting all manufacturing at MBU and automation of the machine shop. They will work as part of the process improvement team to continually improve the day-to-day operation of MBU. Although the location of the position is in Newton, NJ, at certain times, it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations. Essential Job Functions include the following , but are not limited to: Successfully support manufacturing/automation on shop floor; hands-on approach. Improve machining prints, process sheets, jigs/tooling, high-density fixturing, design, etc. Identify and implement New Production Metrics to drive output and quality to reduce NCR's. Improve in-process inspection methods and metrology equipment used throughout the machine shop. Document and carry out shop floor implementation tests for new manufacturing processes. Update machining drawings to improve manufacturability of old and new production products. Work with the design engineering team to ensure manufacturability of new products. Provide technical support for quality or manufacturing issues on shop floor. Provide support for any production needs in the shop. In addition to the essential functions and duties listed above, all positions are also responsible for: Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work-related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures. Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments. The Company retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.
Physical Activities:
Work may be active, could stand or sit for long durations, and/or perform repetitious work at times. Exerts up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally. The work areas may be noisy at times.Requirements Experience:
1-3 years of experience in CNC Manufacturing and Engineering or relevant field.Education:
B.S. Degree in Engineering or Equivalent experience, or technical degree.Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
Proficiency in basic computer use (MS Office) and communication skills. Proficient in SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling software. Working knowledge of standard CNC Machining processes. Strong ability to diagnose and troubleshoot issues. Knowledge of ISO and ASTM standards and documentation Working understanding of LEAN Principles. Strong ability to work well in a group atmosphere and comply with high-quality standards.
