Job Description
Summary The Sterile Pre/Post Production Support Technician is responsible for preparing materials and environments prior to sterile compounding and ensuring proper handling, documentation, and workflow completion after production. This role supports sterile compounding operations by maintaining compliance with USP , internal SOPs, and regulatory requirements while ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and quality across all production cycles.
Available shifts:
Monday-Friday, 11:00 AM-7:30 PM Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM-2:30 PM Training schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM, or Monday-Friday, 11:00 AM-7:30 PM Essential Duties and Responsibilities- The pharmacy technician must conduct himself/herself in a professional manner in conformity with all applicable federal, state, and municipal laws and regulations in his/her relationship with the public, health care professions, and pharmacists.
- The pharmacy technician may assist the pharmacist in performing the specific tasks designated in the appropriate SOP.
- The pharmacy technician's tasks are assigned and overseen by the supervising pharmacist
- Demonstrates regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
- Participates in sterile compounding workflow to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely production of compounded preparations.
Pre-Production Support:
- Stage and prepare all required materials, supplies, and equipment for sterile compounding batches
- Perform cleaning and disinfection of ISO-classified areas (PECs, buffer rooms, ante rooms) per established protocols
- Verify inventory availability of APIs, diluents, vials, syringes, filters, and consumables
- Assist with lot verification, expiration checks, and material traceability documentation
- Assemble compounding kits and batch-specific components based on production schedules
- Ensure proper labeling and segregation of materials prior to compounding
- Support environmental monitoring setup as directed
- Provide real-time support to compounding technicians and pharmacists
- Maintain cleanroom workflow by restocking supplies and removing waste as needed
- Ensure compliance with garbing and aseptic technique standards
- Assist with documentation readiness including batch records and logs
Post Production Support:
- Perform post-production cleaning of equipment, PECs, and cleanroom surfaces
- Reconcile inventory usage, document waste, and return unused materials to storage
- Assist in batch record review preparation and completeness checks
- Label, package, and stage finished products for quarantine, QC review, or shipping
- Dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous waste per compliance guidelines
- Support deviation reporting and documentation if discrepancies occur
Compliance & Quality:
- Adhere to USP , (if applicable), and regulatory requirements
- Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
- Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience in sterile compounding or cleanroom operations preferred Experience
- Preferred Minimum of two (2) years of sterile compounding experience in a 503A or 503B pharmacy, hospital, or equivalent healthcare setting.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Basic understanding of aseptic technique
- Ability to follow SOPs precisely
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and ensure strict compliance with SOPs and regulations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Qualifications
- Ability to perform all essential duties satisfactorily.
- Language skills sufficient to read and interpret SOPs, batch records, safety documents, and regulatory requirements.
- Mathematical skills including calculations of proportions, percentages, concentrations, and dilutions.
- Strong reasoning ability to identify and resolve compounding and workflow challenges. Physical Demands
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, handle objects, and communicate clearly.
- Frequently required to reach, bend, kneel, or crouch.
- Must be able to lift/move up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Must be able to tolerate cleanroom gowning requirements and extended periods of standing in a controlled environment.
Pay:
