Job Description
The Electric Line Technician Trainee performs semi-skilled and progressively skilled work assisting with the construction, installation, maintenance, repair, and restoration of the Town's overhead and underground electrical distribution system and related facilities. This position is designed to provide on-the-job training and practical experience in electric utility line work, safety procedures, equipment operation, and electrical distribution system maintenance. The Electric Line Technician Trainee assists Line Technicians with the installation and repair of overhead and underground power lines, poles, cross arms, insulators, transformers, lightning arrestors, and related equipment. Duties may also include assisting with streetlight and traffic signal maintenance, locating underground utilities, setting electrical poles, trimming trees, performing substation maintenance and testing, and completing minor electrical work in Town facilities. Act as groundman in the installation, repairing, and replacement of cross arms, leg supports, cable insulator and lightning arrestors. Assist other Line Technicians in installing, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground power transmission and distribution lines and related facilities. Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair work on low voltage distribution lines. Locate underground lines. Assist in hanging transformers and wiring up secondaries. Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of street lights, traffic signals, and other facilities. Participate in current and ongoing safety training, maintenance of standards, and equipment checks and maintenance. Operate a variety of utility vehicles and equipment including line truck, bucket truck, digger, boom, compressor, and test equipment. Dig holes and set electrical poles. Trim trees. Put up banners and decorations. Assist in substation maintenance and testing. Perform minor electrical work in Town buildings. Perform related tasks as required.
