A day in your role You begin the shift by loading the correct program into the machine control unit and confirming that conveyors, gantry devices, and robots are ready. You verify gauges and review the quality plan, then run your first parts. Throughout the day, you: Operate and maintain a grinding line to perform multiple grinding functions on metal work pieces, producing precision parts aligned to customer specs and Amsted Rail standards. Measure dimensions using gauges; check parts for defects and record run data in the company system. Listen for abnormal sounds (like excessive vibration) and adjust manual/automatic parameters to correct issues and keep parts in conformance. Assist with changeovers; safely select and use hand/power tools; lift and position components manually or with hoists/cranes. Monitor transfer conveyors; oversee gantry devices; load/unload robots; and replace worn grinding wheels. Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot part compliance and equipment problems. Operate a forklift to move part bins for processing. What you bring Comfort regularly standing and moving through the department and shift; ability to lift/push/pull 10-50 lbs. Commitment to safety, ergonomics, and environmental standards per the Amsted Rail Health & Safety program; willingness to wear company-provided PPE. Mechanical aptitude; prior industrial/manufacturing experience is a plus. Willingness to complete pre-employment screening and meet all job requirements. Why you'll love working here
