Job Description

Support custom part manufacturing by translating client engineering designs into production-ready CAD and process documentation. Collaborate with engineers, manage MRP setup, and ensure smooth handoff to the shop floor. Norstan Inc is looking for a Manufacturing Drafting Technician that will assist in the quoting process, creating internal drawings of parts, and being a knowledge base for customers on our processes. Norstan Inc is a leader in Manufacturing electrical contacts. Norstan Inc. utilizes stamping machines, cold headers, brazing furnaces, and an in-house tool room to support our manufacturing floor. Job responsibilities
  • Utilize SolidWorks to create technical drawings, schematics, and documentation.
  • Use computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems/calculations
  • Understand internal capabilities of machines and equipment
  • Calculate material requirements for production runs
  • Create process maps necessary to manufacture a customer specific part
  • Perform simple and routine engineering tasks with standard techniques.
  • Create bill of materials and standard operations sheets for finished production projects
  • Assist with preparation of proposals and cost estimates
  • Investigate current processes and develop better methods for quality and cost effectiveness
  • Troubleshoot and identify causes of operational problems. Initiate and implement modifications or configuration changes associated with corrective actions
  • Attend seminars and manufacturing technology meetings, keeping abreast of technological advances for use in manufacturing
  • Work and communicate with other departments, suppliers, and customers, to accomplish required assignments
  • Maintain accurate records of engineering activities and keep updated databases Qualifications
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Microsoft Suite experience
  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience
  • Strong Mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Good attention to detail
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate technical information clearly.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interact one on one or in small groups
  • Ability to effectively work on, prioritize concurrent projects, and hit deadlines
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to engineering and manufacturing processes is preferred
  • Drive to improve efficiency in daily processes
  • Exposure to Cold forming, Furnace brazing, press working, contact staking, resistance welding, or assembly processes is a plus Why Norstan?
