Engineering EB Groton Shipyard Overview Entry level engineers in the Ship Signatures Department will support the development of ship's systems, components, and structures to ensure they are designed and built to meet a submarine's challenging noise requirements. Ship Signatures Main Machinery entry level engineers will support the acoustic design of the propulsion plant main machinery components. This includes the design of components to identify and incorporate noise control features to ensure the overall ship requirements are satisfied in addition to performing detailed analyses of the dynamic behavior of main machinery components and structures using finite element, boundary element, and statistical energy analysis techniques. The entry level engineers in this group work closely with mentors to develop their skill sets in machinery silencing. They will work with both internal Electric Boat component and systems departments and the external component vendors. Collaboration between the Ship Signatures Main Machinery engineers and other Electric Boat disciplines in Design-Build-Sustain teams is a common job responsibility.
