Job Description

We are an OEM composites machine design and manufacturing company and are looking for a Composite Materials and Process Expert to support the development, improvement, and implementation of our current and new line of On-Demand composite materials processing machines for both Prepregs and TowPregs. The position requires a full range of composite processing knowledge from epoxy resin development, Prepreg/TowPreg processing to part processing and new product development. This is a strategic position so we are looking for an experienced, processing expert that is interesting in applying their learned skills and experiences in a way to help leverage and drive the development of new and disruptive technology that will allow for the expansion of composite utilization.
Major Position Responsibilities:
  • Work with the Engineering design team to improve and develop machines that make On-Demand materials easier and more cost effective for end parts producers
  • Working with customers to better understand their processing issues and limitations to develop solutions
  • Working with resin developers on development of resin systems and processing that are needed to support the On-Demand materials platforms
  • Support internal machine processing setups and proof outs as well as onsite installations
  • Collaborate closely with customer engineering teams to facilitate successful technology transfer and process scaleup
  • Coordinate and execute product trials and demonstrations at customer facilities
  • Work closely with sales team to make test samples and provide technical feedback needed for developing new or improved materials and processes for part fabrication Experience desired:
  • Must have experience with composite manufacturing techniques including resin filming, prepreg processing, TowPreg processing, resin formulation, development and testing (thermal, mechanical and/or chemical characterization)
  • Familiarity with filament winding, Part fabrication using TowPreg and Prepregs, resin mixing and handling.
  • Prior experience with direct customer interactions in a technical role
  • Must be able to perform processing procedures related to fabrication of materials. Must be familiar with safe chemical handling practices and common laboratory safety procedures.
  • Possess a background and knowledge in composite materials and processes (graphite/polyimide, graphite /epoxy, graphite/bismaleimide, thermoplastics, honeycomb cores and adhesives) used in all composites markets and applications
  • Knowledge of industry practices and standards, with a particular focus on the fabrication, qualification and testing of composite materials
Skills/and Capability Required:
  • Must be "Hands On".
  • Possess strong organizational and planning abilities.
  • Be a self-starter and be able to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints and process specifications.
  • Meets commitments, is high energy, self-motivated, works independently, accepts accountability, handles changes, sets personal standards, stays focused under pressure, meets attendance/punctuality requirements.
  • Ability to work constructively with a team of manufacturing and quality personnel, engineers, and technicians.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact and, lead a team of moderately experienced professional employees on single component projects.
Able to work extended hours as required. General Job requirements

  • 7+ years of relevant technical experience
  • Demonstrated technical problem-solving ability
  • Significant hands on experience and technical background related to working in both laboratories and manufacturing environments
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Good project and time management skills
  • Travel requirement: 25-50% expected (domestic and international)
