Welding Engineer

Job Description

We are in search of a skilled Welding Engineer to provide support for aerospace manufacturing operations in Windsor Locks, CT. This role will be primarily focused on the production and revival of legacy heat exchanger products, as well as assisting with welding, brazing, machining, sheet metal manufacturing, process improvement, production issue resolution, and quality enhancement efforts. The ideal candidate will possess extensive hands-on experience in manufacturing engineering and a comprehensive knowledge of welding processes, GD&T, engineering drawings, production documentation, and aerospace quality standards. Key Duties Assist in the revival and manufacturing of legacy heat exchanger products. Collaborate closely with Manufacturing Engineering and shop-floor personnel to enhance manufacturing processes. Create, revise, and maintain work instructions, operation sheets, and assembly documentation. Develop and update process operation and assembly sheets, preferably utilizing Solumina . Interpret engineering drawings and specifications and apply GD&T requirements to production processes. Support manufacturing processes involving aluminum and steel brazing, welding, machining, and sheet metal techniques. Create, mark up, edit, and update welding process specifications. Investigate welding-related production issues and enact corrective measures to enhance product performance and productivity. Develop repair procedures and evaluate manufacturing defects to determine fitness-for-service. Establish welding standards, materials requirements, weld joint designs, and welding methods. Develop and oversee welding procedure qualifications, supplier qualifications, and product testing. Troubleshoot welding and manufacturing challenges using rigorous cause-and-effect analysis. Devise and implement suitable inspection methods and techniques. Support quality and process improvement projects for products. Oversee multiple engineering projects and process-related tasks until completion and approval. Track project actions and ensure follow-up on pending tasks. Analyze manufacturing data and create presentations identifying productivity enhancements and cost-saving opportunities. Effectively communicate technical information with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and quality personnel. Requirements 5-8 years of relevant engineering/manufacturing experience. Demonstrated expertise in manufacturing processes, methods, and techniques. Experience in welding and brazing processes, particularly with aluminum and steel . Preferably experience in sheet metal manufacturing. Preferably experience with heat exchanger manufacturing. Solid understanding of GD&T and engineering drawing interpretation. Experience in developing and troubleshooting production processes. Previous work in an aerospace manufacturing setting. Familiarity with AS9100 quality requirements. Strong technical writing and oral communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Strong organizational and project management capabilities. Ability to manage multiple work streams and drive tasks to completion. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, shop-floor environment. Authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Teamcenter . Experience with NX or other 3D modeling software. Familiarity with Solumina . Familiarity with SAP . Experience in aerospace heat exchanger manufacturing. Strong background in welding process development and qualification. Work Environment & Schedule This is an on-site position in Windsor Locks, Connecticut . 2nd
Shift:
3:00 PM-11:30 PM Approximately 40 hours per week. Typical 8-hour workdays plus lunch. Shop-floor environment requiring extensive walking. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Approximately 5% travel may be required.
