Job Description

Vision Point Systems is seeking qualified candidates to provide on-site support to the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, Coatings and Corrosion branch at their remote laboratory site in Dania Beach, FL. This laboratory conducts corrosion-related testing, including flow-assisted corrosion, natural atmospheric exposure, and fully immersed exposure. Primary duties of this position are those necessary for working in an aqueous corrosion laboratory focused on testing and evaluating the corrosion performance of base materials and coatings used by the US Navy. This includes, but is not limited to: Supporting the design and execution of laboratory testing programs; Evaluating test specimens, analyzing collected data, and documenting the results. Overseeing laboratory operations, such as inventory management, laboratory upkeep, and other related activities. Test evaluations may include photographic, electrochemical, chemical, or other types of evaluations related to corrosion and coatings testing. Developing technical reports and standard operating procedures will also be expected. Coordinate site visitors from Gov't, Contractor, and Non-DoD personnel who access the site during experiment operation. Maintain a schedule for periodic inspection and monitoring of active experiments including: timely submission of Discharge Monitoring Reports, weekly inspections of mechanical systems, timely reporting of experiment status to personnel at West Bethesda. Coordinate with local government regulators to ensure compliance with permitted wastewater discharge. Collect water samples, record discharge volumes, interpret water quality test reports, and generate discharge monitoring reports. Management of site material inventory including test articles, raw materials, and incoming shipments. Requirements Bachelor's Degree in materials science, mechanical engineering or other similarly aligned engineering degree from an accredited university or college. 1-3 years of past work experience, with emphasis on laboratory operations and testing. Ability to work at a remote location with the ability to self-direct daily tasking. Fundamentals of corrosion and electrochemistry. Knowledge of HAZMAT handling. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret security clearance - requires US Citizenship. Familiar with basics of electronic motor control for fluid handling systems including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), tank level switches, variable frequency drives (VFDs), pump motors, dataloggers, and various sensors and transducers. Ability to perform basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting for electronic control cabinets, sensor dataloggers, electric motors and motor controllers, pumps and fluid handling equipment, and HVAC systems. Ability to identify and request maintenance actions for facilities or corrosion damage. Must be able to maintain a general inventory of site materials to support emergent projects. Physical Requirements Approximately 50% of the work would be done outdoors to set up tests and equipment.
