Job Description

Company Overview:
American Fabricated Products is a leading manufacturing company specializing in Prime and Sub-Prime Defense Contractors, Automotive & Furniture OEMs and their sub-tiers as well as many other Industrial markets. We are dedicated to delivering high-quality precision components to our clients while maintaining efficient production processes. As we continue to expand, we are seeking a skilled welder to join our team and contribute to our success.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Weld Department Leader to join our team. As a Weld Department Lead you will be responsible for overseeing welders, enforcing safety and quality standards, optimizing workflow, and ensuring that all welds comply with specific industry codes (e.g., AWS or ASME) while meeting production deadlines.
Core Responsibilities Production & Workflow:
Manage daily fabrication schedules to ensure on-time delivery of products. Coordinate the flow of materials, parts, and welding consumables across the shop floor.
Quality Assurance:
Inspect welds for defects, oversee destructive/non-destructive testing (NDT), and ensure compliance with blueprints, weld symbols, and specifications.
Team Leadership:
Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate welding personnel. Assign work based on welder skill level and required certifications.
Safety & Compliance:
Enforce OSHA safety regulations, promote the use of proper PPE, and maintain a clean, organized shop environment.
Process Improvement:
Drive continuous improvement, Lean manufacturing practices, and scrap-reduction initiatives.
Equipment Maintenance:
Oversee preventative maintenance and calibration of welding machines, robotic cells, and fabrication tools.
Key Qualifications Experience:
3-7 years of supervisory or management experience in a metal fabrication or welding environment.
Technical Expertise:
Hands-on proficiency with processes like MIG, TIG, FCAW, and SMAW.
Blueprint Reading:
Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and welding symbols.
Industry Certifications:
A Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential or
AWS/ASME
certifications are highly preferred.
Soft Skills:
Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and communication skills to serve as a bridge between upper management and the floor team.
