A Welding Engineer develops welding techniques and equipment for use in metal fabrication and product manufacturing. Researches welding techniques and engineers welding equipment and processes.
The Part-Time Night Workforce Training Instructor - Welding will prepare individuals for entry-level employment and career advancement in the welding industry through hands-on, industry-focused training. The instructor will provide classroom and laboratory instruction in assigned welding and cutting processes and ensure students develop the technical skills, safety practices, employability skills, and workplace knowledge necessary for success in the welding field. The instructor will be responsible for delivering assigned Workforce Education curriculum and training content, maintaining a safe and professional learning environment, supervising students during instructional and laboratory activities, and ensuring required learning objectives are met. Duties will include, but are not limited to: Providing classroom and hands-on laboratory instruction in assigned welding and cutting processes.
Teaching applicable welding processes, which may include Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), pipe welding, aluminum welding, oxyfuel cutting, plasma arc cutting, and carbon arc cutting and gouging.
Demonstrating proper welding techniques, equipment operation, safety procedures, and industry standards.
Providing appropriate supervision of students during all instructional and laboratory activities.
Maintaining a safe, clean, and professional training environment.
Delivering approved curriculum and ensuring required course learning objectives are met.
Assessing student progress and providing feedback related to technical skill development.
Providing instruction related to employability skills, workplace expectations, professional conduct, and industry-specific hiring practices.
Supporting student awareness of welding careers, industry certifications, employment opportunities, and PRCC workforce programs.
Coordinating with the Workforce Project Manager to facilitate at least one recruiter or employer visit during each class.
Maintaining accurate attendance records and completing all required Workforce Education documentation.
Accurately reporting actual instructional and approved work hours.
Communicating promptly with the Workforce Project Manager regarding student concerns, safety issues, equipment needs, schedule conflicts, or other matters affecting course delivery.
Properly using and maintaining instructional equipment and reporting damaged, malfunctioning, or unsafe equipment.
Attending required meetings or professional development activities as assigned and approved.
Performing other duties directly related to the successful delivery of Workforce Education training as assigned.

Workforce Education Educational Requirements:
An associate's degree in welding, a related technical field, and/or significant work-related experience in the welding industry. Demonstrated technical competency and experience in welding instruction or industry training preferred.
Industry Certifications Preferred:
AWS Structural Welding certification, NCCER Core and Welding certifications, or other relevant industry-recognized welding certifications.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in welding and cutting processes.
Ability to effectively demonstrate hands-on technical skills.
Ability to maintain a safe instructional and laboratory environment.
Ability to communicate technical information effectively to individuals with varying levels of experience.
Ability to work effectively with adult learners and individuals preparing for employment.
Knowledge of current welding industry practices and workplace expectations.
Ability to maintain accurate attendance, time, and instructional documentation.
Ability to work cooperatively with Workforce Education staff, employers, and community partners.
Work Schedule:
Part-time evening/night schedule based on Workforce Education course offerings and enrollment. Scheduled instructional days and hours will be established by the Workforce Education Project Manager. Instructors are expected to meet the full scheduled instructional time and maintain availability for assigned courses.
Supervision:
The Part-Time Night Workforce Training Instructor - Welding reports to the designated Workforce Education Project Manager and is expected to comply with the Pearl River Community College Workforce Training Instructor Agreement and applicable college policies and procedures.
