Job Description

United States Steel Corporation has an immediate opening for a Metallurgical Engineer within its Packaging organization. This role supports an assigned customer territory and is responsible for improving customer quality performance, resolving technical issues, and strengthening customer satisfaction. The Metallurgical Engineer will work closely with mill teams, customers, Manufacturing, Engineering, Plant Quality Assurance, Operations, and Commercial teams to solve problems, support continuous improvement, and implement initiatives that create a positive customer experience. This position reports to the Industry Manager and requires a mid-career professional who can work remotely with minimal direct supervision. Regular overnight travel is required. Key Responsibilities Customer Quality and Technical Support
  • Improve quality performance at assigned customer locations and develop customer satisfaction initiatives.
  • Investigate rejected material at customer sites and partner with customers and mill personnel to resolve issues.
  • Accurately communicate problems to mill teams and establish appropriate containment actions for product quality concerns.
  • Identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and provide timely feedback to customers. Continuous Improvement and Product Knowledge
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in product quality and customer performance.
  • Apply knowledge of mill product quality standards, capabilities, and limitations.
  • Communicate and support new technical developments for customers and market needs.
  • Review and approve customer specifications and requirements.
  • Ensure customer requirements are accurately entered into mill orders. Reporting, Communication, and Collaboration
  • Document results in the claim system and report competitive activities within the assigned area.
  • Monitor mill and processor quality performance at assigned customer and processor locations.
  • Provide written reports following plant visits, including issues addressed and direct customer feedback.
  • Collaborate with Commercial teams on customer issues and growth opportunities.
  • Serve as the Voice of the Customer when reporting mill performance issues and customer plant developments.
