Job Description

Position Summary:
The adjunct instructor will teach Interpreting Engineering Blueprints for the Welding Engineering Technology program during daytime class hours. This role focuses on helping students develop the ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings used in welding, fabrication, manufacturing, and mechanical systems. Instruction emphasizes industry standards, hands‑on interpretation exercises, and real‑world application aligned with welding engineering practice. Key Responsibilities Deliver course content in alignment with Welding Engineering Technology learning outcomes and institutional guidelines. Teach blueprint fundamentals and advanced topics including orthographic projection, dimensioning, tolerances, welding symbols, notes, sections, auxiliary views, and fabrication/assembly documentation. Provide focused instruction on interpreting welding‑specific drawings, including WPS/PQR references, weld symbols, joint details, and
AWS/ASME
code‑aligned documentation. Integrate examples from welding, fabrication, mechanical systems, and manufacturing environments to reinforce practical application. Develop and present lectures, demonstrations, and hands‑on interpretation activities that support student skill development. Assess student learning through quizzes, assignments, blueprint interpretation exercises, and competency‑based evaluations. Maintain a professional, organized, and supportive learning environment that promotes student success. Collaborate with WEL faculty to ensure course materials reflect current industry standards and practices. Participate in required meetings, training, and program assessment activities. Qualifications Industry experience in welding engineering, fabrication, mechanical design, manufacturing, or related technical fields. Strong working knowledge of engineering drawings, welding symbols, tolerancing, and documentation standards (ANSI, ASME, AWS). SolidWorks experience preferred, especially in relation to interpreting CAD‑generated drawings and assemblies. Teaching, training, or mentoring experience desirable. Ability to communicate clearly and support students in a hands‑on technical learning environment. Strong professionalism, organization, and interpersonal skills. Work Schedule Daytime adjunct position; schedule varies by academic term.
