Full-Time, Salary-Exempt Job Summary Our client is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical systems and experience translating those systems into detailed 2D and 3D CAD designs . This position will be responsible for the engineering and delivery of mechanically operated locking systems for existing and new detention facilities. The Engineer will work closely with Engineering, CAD, Purchasing, Fabrication, Project Management, and Field Installation teams to ensure projects are designed, documented, and delivered accurately, on time, and within budget. The role involves everything from initial system design and engineering documentation through fabrication, installation, testing, and project closeout. Key Responsibilities Design and develop detailed part and assembly drawings using CAD software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks . Develop accurate technical drawings in collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams. Prepare system design, fabrication, and installation documentation . Create and maintain Submittals, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and Closeout Documents . Prepare field installation drawings and pre- and post-test documentation. Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulations . Perform quality checks on drawings and engineering documents for accuracy and completeness. Create purchase requisitions and coordinate/track material deliveries. Maintain organized records of engineering documents, revisions, and project information. Monitor project requirements to help ensure work stays within budget and schedule . Provide regular project updates and communicate progress, issues, and changes. Participate in project meetings and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Coordinate engineering activities with purchasing, fabrication, project management, and field installation teams. Travel occasionally to job sites to gather information and support project requirements ( approximately 3-4 days per month ). Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Mechanical Engineering preferred. 3-5 years of engineering experience. Experience with CAD software , particularly MicroStation and/or SolidWorks . Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office . Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including motor drive units, gearing, chains, and related mechanical components . Ability to create and interpret detailed 2D/3D engineering and system drawings . Strong understanding of technical drawing standards and practices . Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Strong problem-solving and organizational skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative engineering team. Experience in the detention industry is a plus.
