POSITION DESCRIPTION
Talas Engineering, Inc. is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer interested in developing a career in accident reconstruction and forensic analysis. The engineer will work as part of a team on a variety of accident reconstruction and forensic mechanical engineering projects including single and multi-vehicle on and off-highway collisions, accidents and alleged failures associated with industrial equipment and recreational equipment, and accidents and/or allegations of product failure in transportation and industrial systems. Key responsibilities include analysis and simulation of vehicle dynamics, vehicular impact analysis, static and dynamic testing, general forensic analysis and testing, accident site examination and documentation, vehicle and equipment examinations and inspections, engineering mechanics analyses, technical review of incident-related documentation, review and application of scientific literature, clear communication of findings both orally and in writing, and managing projects and client expectations. Project work at Talas is team-oriented, with opportunities for self-directed analysis and research. The work is challenging, varied, fast-paced, and interesting. Talas staff present research results at international conferences and in peer-reviewed publications. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated creative thinker, a team player with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, highly attentive to accuracy and detail, has outstanding oral and written communication skills, demonstrates leadership potential, and can effectively interact with technical and non-technical people. The successful candidate will grow professionally within Talas Engineering, and over the long term will receive support as they develop their own self-sustaining accident reconstruction practice. - QUALIFICATIONS:
- M.S. or Ph.D. (or B.S. with 3+ years of relevant industry experience) in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) with a very strong background in dynamics and mechanics.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills Additional Useful Skills (or skills that may be developed over time): Hands on-experience with motor vehicle systems and mechanics Experience in failure analysis, accident reconstruction, photogrammetry, or video analysis Familiarity with dynamic testing, data collection, and data analysis Knowledge of equipment/software including: AutoCAD, 3D solid-modeling, 3D measuring and imaging (e.
g. laser scanning), PC-Crash or HVE, MADYMO, 3ds Max An interest in overhead aerial imaging, including drone piloting Experience in performing scientific and technical literature research Attention to detail is critical.
