This role focuses not on new construction, but on evaluating, optimizing, and retrofitting existing mechanical and control systems to dramatically reduce energy consumption and operational costs across client facilities. You will collaborate with engineering, project management, sales, and technical operations teams to identify opportunities, scope retrofits, and design solutions that are technically sound, cost-effective, and implementable across a variety of commercial and industrial environments. Key Responsibilities Energy & Systems Analysis Lead detailed site assessments and energy audits of existing mechanical and control systems. Quantify energy usage patterns, inefficiencies, and opportunities for mechanical and controls upgrades (HVAC, pumps, fans, lighting interplay, etc.). Model potential energy and cost savings for retrofit proposals, aligning with utility rebate and incentive programs. Retrofit Strategy & Design Develop engineering solutions for mechanical systems retrofits (not limited to lighting) that improve efficiency while maintaining or improving performance. Specify controlled-based upgrades to building automation systems (BAS), variable speed drives (VSDs), sensors, and related controls that drive measurable savings. Work with electrical and controls engineers to integrate systems upgrades with EverWatt lighting projects where synergistic. Technical Leadership & Project Support Provide technical oversight for retrofit implementation; ensure quality and compliance with industry standards and client expectations. Review contractor work and validate delivered performance gains post-installation. Mentor junior engineers and technical teams; elevate internal capability in efficiency engineering. Client & Stakeholder Engagement Serve as technical subject-matter expert for client presentations, proposals, and savings justification. Coordinate assessments and ongoing performance tracking with clients, utilities, and internal project teams. Required Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field. 10+ years' experience in energy efficiency engineering, mechanical systems retrofits, and controls integration (focus on existing buildings, not new build). Proven experience in energy auditing, mechanical system troubleshooting, and retrofit design. Strong proficiency with building systems analysis tools, energy modeling software, and BAS/VFD control logic. Familiar with utility rebate/incentive programs and performance-based project financing concepts. Excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical findings into actionable project plans and ROI analyses. Preferred Skills Professional Engineer (PE) license. Experience with LED and smart lighting systems, facility electrification, or combined energy-saving measures. Utility program experience (e.g., on-bill financing or rebate program frameworks relevant to energy retrofit validations)
