All overtime hours require prior Manager approval before being worked. About the Role We are seeking an R D Technician to support the hands-on fabrication, assembly, and testing of Synchron's devices. This individual will work directly alongside engineers to build prototype and pre-production devices, prepare test samples, execute mechanical and functional test procedures, and maintain the lab infrastructure that supports the kit development program. This is a lab-based, detail-oriented role at the heart of device development. The successful candidate will bring strong manual dexterity, comfort with microscope-based assembly, and a disciplined approach to documentation. Key Responsibilities Prototype Fabrication
  • Perform hands-on assembly of R D prototypes
  • Assemble procedural accessories and ancillary kit components per documented work instructions
  • Support rapid design-build-test iteration cycles by turning around prototype builds on tight timelines Testing & Sample Preparation
  • Prepare test samples, fixtures, and anatomical bench models for device characterization
  • Operate lab equipment including force testers (Instron or equivalent), microscopes, laser micrometers, leak detectors, and environmental chambers
  • Record, organize, and report test data accurately; flag anomalies or deviations to the engineering team
  • Support simulated-use testing and bench model preparation design verification testing Lab Operations & Equipment
  • Maintain clean and organized workspaces in accordance with clean-room, ESD, and contamination control protocols
  • Perform routine calibration, preventive maintenance, and upkeep of assembly tools and test instruments
  • Manage consumables inventory, raw material stock, and incoming inspection of purchased components
  • Operate and maintain specialized equipment such as ovens, laser welders, and polymer processing tools Documentation & Quality
  • Follow and provide feedback on assembly work instructions, test protocols, and standard operating procedures
  • Maintain lot traceability, serialization, and device history records (DHR) for all builds
  • Participate in non-conformance reporting, CAPA activities, and process improvement efforts as needed
  • Support first-article and incoming quality inspections for purchased materials and components Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or technical certificate in biomedical equipment technology, electronics, mechanical technology, or a related field-or equivalent hands-on experience
  • 3+ years of experience as a technician in an R D, manufacturing, or lab environment, ideally in medical devices
  • Strong manual dexterity and demonstrated skill with microscope-based assembly of small, delicate components
  • Experience with precision manual processes: soldering, adhesive dispensing, wire handling, and mechanical fastening at small scale
  • Ability to read and work from engineering drawings, schematics, and written work instructions
  • Strong attention to detail and a disciplined approach to documentation and traceability Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to mechanical testing equipment (Instron, force gauges, fatigue testers)
  • Familiarity with
ISO 13485
quality management systems and GDP/GMP practices Compensation The base salary range for this role is $80,000 - $100,000 depending on experience, skills, and qualifications. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and/or equity grants, subject to board approval and company policy.
