Job Description

Manufacturing Design Engineer Manufacturing Design Engineer Position Overview We are seeking a Manufacturing Design Engineer to develop, qualify, and optimize manufacturing processes and automated assembly systems for precision mechanical and mechatronic products. The role combines hands-on design, CAD modeling, CAM/CNC programming, robotic cell and automated assembly implementation, and production support to drive manufacturability, cost reduction, and compliance with ITAR/DFARS/CMMC and ISO9001 requirements. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with R&D, production, quality, and supply chain to deliver repeatable, high-quality manufacturing solutions. Key Responsibilities Design and validate manufacturable assemblies, fixtures, tooling, and production equipment with emphasis on automated assembly and robotic cell integration. Create and maintain 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and BOMs using OnShape, Siemens NX, and SolidWorks; ensure design intent is captured for production and CAM workflows. Develop CAM programs and CNC machining strategies; collaborate with shop floor personnel to optimize machining, welding, and fabrication processes. Lead implementation of automated assembly lines and robotic cells, including selection/specification of endofarm tooling, sensors, PLC/robot integration, and safety systems. Integrate design data with MES and PLM systems; generate work instructions, process sheets, and quality checkpoints for production and inspection per ISO9001 standards. Author process validation plans, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to improve yield, throughput, and cost. Ensure designs and manufacturing processes comply with ITAR, DFARS, CMMC and other contractual/regulatory requirements; support audits and documentation control. Use Python and scripting to automate design validation tasks, data extraction, and manufacturing process analytics. Collaborate with suppliers to qualify purchased tooling, fixtures, and subcontracted assemblies; support supplier audits and technical negotiations. Train production and maintenance teams on new processes, fixtures, and equipment; provide handson support during first articles, pilot runs, and production ramp. Drive continuous improvement projects (Kaizen, DOE) to reduce cycle time, scrap, and cost while improving product quality and reliability. Qualifications Bachelors degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field; MS preferred. 5+ years of experience in manufacturing design, automation, or production engineering with demonstrated experience implementing automated assembly and robotic cells. Proven proficiency in CAD systems (OnShape, Siemens NX, SolidWorks) and understanding of CADtoCAM workflows. Experience with CAM programming, CNC machining, welding and fabrication processes, and shop floor best practices. Handson experience with MES and PLM systems and managing engineering data across the product lifecycle. Practical knowledge of robotic integration, PLC/robot interfaces, EOAT selection, and safety standards. Familiarity with
ITAR, DFARS, CMMC
requirements and demonstrated ability to produce compliant documentation and support audits. Working knowledge of ISO9001 quality systems and experience writing process documentation and FMEAs. Proficiency in Python for scripting and automation of engineering/manufacturing tasks; familiarity with data analysis and process monitoring. Strong problem solving, communication, and project management skills; ability to lead crossfunctional teams and manage multiple priorities. Ability to work handson in a production environment and travel to supplier or customer sites as required. Certifications in welding, CAM, robotics, or quality (e.g., ASQ, IPC) are a plus. For this position, you must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship for a non-immigrant visa.
