Job Description:
Mechanical Engineer - Naperville, IL (on-site) 9 month Contract to Hire Medix is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our client's product development team in Naperville, IL. This organization specializes in taking R D concepts through the prototype phase and into production for clients including Fortune 500 companies to startups. The team comprises industrial designers, mechanical engineers, electronic hardware engineers, and embedded firmware engineers. They are certified design consultants for STMicroelectronics and Microchip and are globally recognized Solidworks experts.
Responsibilities:
Manage mechanical engineering tasks for new product development from concept to prototype phase. Act as the main contact for customers throughout the project, including gathering product specifications, securing design approvals, and providing manufacturing support. Create engineering drawings in Solidworks and develop comprehensive bills of materials. Build prototypes using manual lathes, mills, welding stations, and 3D printers. Perform engineering calculations and FEA for stress and strain analysis, deformation, tolerance stack-ups, cycle fatigue, and heat transfer. Serve as the primary contact for clients, gathering requirements, providing updates, and ensuring satisfaction. Prepare and maintain project documentation and progress reports. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software engineers, etc. Ensure all designs and projects comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Address and resolve any technical issues that arise during the project lifecycle. Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions to enhance project efficiency and quality.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, with at least 4 years of experience. Strong passion for design. Proficiency in creating 3D models using Solidworks, AutoCAD Inventor, or Pro-E. Ability to conduct engineering calculations and FEA, including basic force load transfer, stress and strain, deformation, tolerance stack-ups, cyclic fatigue, and thermodynamics/heat transfer. Hands-on prototyping experience (preferably with machine shop skills; experience with manual mills, lathes, band saws, woodworking, 3D printers, welding, etc.). Excellent time management skills.
