Detector Integration Engineer Fermi Forward Discovery Group, LLC has an opening for a full-time Detector Integration Engineer in Batavia, Illinois.
Position Summary:
Support the design, analysis, delivery, and integration of detector infrastructure for the
LBNE/DUNE
project. Develop designs, perform finite element analysis, verification calculation, and documentation. Develop specifications, designs, drawings, and documents to address the complex engineering challenges of
LBNE/DUNE.
Execute engineering calculations to support designs of detector infrastructure, perform the finite element analysis required to support these designs and then analyze data. Design detector component alignment tools and specialized material movement and handling tools to deliver project materials to work locations one mile underground through a narrow 5'x12' shaft. Lead engineering projects and tasks through all phases: prototyping, testing, procurement, manufacturing, installation, and operation, including development of cost estimates, as well as monitoring of budgetary obligations. Consistent with budgetary authorities, commit hardware and financial resources, ensuring conformance to codes and standards, including ASME, AISC, AWS and Department of Energy/Fermilab specifications and cost/time constraints. Serve on or take a lead role in safety panels, review committees, and other subcommittees as assigned. Provide technical direction to team, including draftspersons, designers, engineering associates, technicians, collaborators, and multinational partners. May participate in technical conferences and publications.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or the foreign equivalent, and 2 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, including at least 1 (one) year of experience in: (1) developing engineering systems from inception to completion; (2) developing CAD models and 2D models for the systems; and (3) improving designs, for performance, safety and scalability based on iterative testing and feedback from field commissioning.
