HDD, LLC
(Lake Zurich, IL) seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, evaluate, and improve mechanical components and systems used in horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment and related heavy machinery.
Specific Duties:
  • Design and develop metal structural units, mechanical assemblies, and system components for horizontal directional drilling (HDD) machines and related equipment.
  • Perform engineering calculations, stress analysis, tolerance analysis, and structural evaluation to confirm performance and safety.
  • Prepare detailed CAD models, engineering drawings, blueprints, bills of materials, and specifications for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Evaluate materials, fabrication processes, and welding applications to ensure durability, quality, and cost efficiency.
  • Participate in prototype development, mechanical testing, and design validation.
  • Support the installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems, ensuring proper functioning.
  • Identify mechanical issues, diagnose failures, and recommend engineering modifications and design improvements.
  • Coordinate with production, welding, electrical, and quality teams to support manufacturing and ensure adherence to specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, safety regulations, and company procedures.
  • Prepare engineering reports, documentation, and engineering change records as needed.
Special Requirements:
Must have experience in each of the following: 1) Designing mechanical components or structural assemblies for drilling systems heavy machinery, or industrial equipment; 2) Engineering design using Autodesk Inventor; 3) Performing engineering calculations, including theoretical calculations of steel loads, structural stresses, and performance tolerances; 4) Knowledge of horizontal or vertical drilling processes.
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering or a closely related engineering field, or foreign equivalent; 12 months of experience as a Mechanical Engineer or Welding Engineer.
