As we continue to expand our global presence across the North American, European, and Asian markets through innovative products and industry-leading customer support, we are seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing Engineering team. This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and is responsible for the design, development, improvement, and support of our centerless grinding machines, automation systems, and engineered customer solutions. The successful candidate will work closely with Manufacturing, Electrical Engineering, Purchasing, Customer Service, and Field Service to develop innovative products while supporting our commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction. Primary Responsibilities Design mechanical components, assemblies, and complete machine systems utilizing SolidWorks . Produce detailed manufacturing drawings utilizing accepted GD&T standards. Design new machine platforms and enhance existing centerless grinding equipment through continuous product improvement. Develop custom machine solutions, customer upgrades, retrofit packages, and engineered automation systems.
Design automation equipment including:
Pick-and-place systems Part loaders Conveyors Servo-controlled motion systems Material handling systems Reverse engineer existing machinery to improve performance, reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability. Develop engineering documentation including Bills of Material (BOMs), assembly drawings, detail drawings, and engineering change notices. Support prototype development, machine assembly, testing, installation, and customer acceptance. Provide engineering support during machine assembly, installation, start-up, commissioning, and customer acceptance. Travel up to 25% as required to support critical customer machine installations, commissioning activities, troubleshooting, and engineering support at customer facilities. Collaborate with Operations, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Electrical Engineering, and Service to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget. Assist the Service Department in resolving field issues and developing engineering solutions to improve machine performance and customer satisfaction. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction. Support strategic engineering initiatives involving new product development, aftermarket growth, automation, and machine modernization. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering experience. Minimum of 3-5 years of mechanical design experience in industrial machinery or automation. Advanced proficiency using SolidWorks CAD . Strong understanding of GD&T and manufacturing drawing standards. Excellent mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience working with industrial machinery. Experience with precision machining processes and manufacturing methods.
Working knowledge of:
CNC machining Manual machining equipment Surface grinders Precision measuring instruments Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, servo, and mechanical power transmission systems. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to independently manage multiple engineering projects from concept through implementation. Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% to customer locations throughout North America and, on occasion, internationally to support machine installations, commissioning, training, and engineering projects.
