REPORTING TO
Engineering Manager
POSITION
Mechanical Design Engineer Summary:
We are seeking an entry-level Mechanical Engineer with a foundational understanding of AutoCAD 2D and 3D design to support engineering and design activities within the oil and gas sector. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong drive to develop innovative solutions from concept to completion — someone who lives in the details of design and is eager to develop their expertise in process equipment, piping systems, and structural design. In this role, you will assist in developing detailed 3D models and fabrication drawings for complex industrial projects, building the skills needed to grow into a fully independent design engineer.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist senior engineers in developing detailed 3D models and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD Plant 3D and Advanced Steel
  • Support the design of rotating and process equipment from early concept through detailed engineering deliverables
  • Contribute to the development of piping systems and structural design documentation
  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail across all drawings, models, and specifications
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback to continuously improve deliverables
  • Develop and maintain detailed 3D models using AutoCAD Plant 3D and Advanced Steel for process equipment, piping layouts, and structural components.
  • Produce accurate 2D drawings, isometrics, general arrangements (GA), and fabrication drawings.
  • Collaborate with process and mechanical engineers to ensure design accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
  • Interpret P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and engineering standards to create constructible models.
  • Perform clash detection and resolve design conflicts within multidisciplinary models.
  • Generate material take-offs (MTOs) and bill of materials (BOMs).
  • Ensure all designs comply with industry codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Support design reviews, model walkthroughs, and project meetings.
  • Revise and update models/drawings based on feedback and field changes.
  • Maintain proper documentation and file management in accordance with company standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • 0-2 years of experience; internship or co-op experience in oil and gas or industrial design is a plus
  • Exposure to AutoCAD Plant 3D and/or Advanced Steel (academic or professional)
  • Foundational knowledge of process equipment, piping systems, and structural design principles
  • A genuine passion for building designs from the ground up and a sharp eye for detail
  • Self-motivated, eager to learn, and comfortable working through complex design challenges
  • Experience working with P&IDs and process flow diagrams (PFDs).
  • Strong knowledge of process equipment design, piping systems, and structural steel.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ANSI).
  • Experience with additional 3D modeling tools (e.g., Navisworks, Revit, or similar).
  • Field experience or exposure to fabrication and construction environments.
Work Environment:
  • Office-based role with periodic travel to fabrication shops and field sites.
  • Collaboration with internal teams and external clients/vendors.
