Job Description
Mechanical Product Engineer - Job Description A Tecogen Mechanical Engineer develops the mechanical aspects of our energy-efficient lines of stationary engine generators and chillers and assist with service territory operations. This position provides the opportunity to work for one of the largest cogeneration companies in the area, providing combined heat and power as well as cooling to our customers.

Mechanical Engineer Description and Responsibilities:
The Mechanical Engineer must be very familiar with the refrigeration cycle and generator systems. They must have a strong understanding of heat transfer, fluid flow systems including sensing and controls, and sensing and control circuitry. They must have a good understanding of principles power generation. Although ability to write software is a plus, they must be able to understand the algorithms needed to control a refrigeration or cooling system so that they can work with a software engineer to implement changes. They must be able to work within a small engineering team and be able to communicate well.Other responsibilities include:
- Participate in the development and enhancement of all company product lines including fixed and variable speed generators, water cooled and air cooled chillers, natural gas power trains, and modular thermal load handling systems
- Analyze and reconfigure product designs to improve performance, manufacturability, production efficiency, and cost
- Operate units as needed to collect data
- Work closely with the production team to identify and correct issues and meet QC standards.
- Work closely with external vendors and contract manufacturers
- Evaluate and integrate feedback into design revisions
- Identify and develop partnerships with new vendors to support design and production needs
- Ensure designs meet performance, safety, and quality standards
- Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using software such as CREO or SolidWorks - the majority of modeling is handled by a Product Designer, but infrequent modeling may be required of the Mechanical Engineer
- Develop comprehensive documentation, including bills of materials, specifications, and assembly instructions
- Provide technical support to production teams and other stakeholders as needed
Mechanical Engineer Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field is required
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical and/or product engineering, preferably in equipment design or a related industry
- Strong ability to read design drawings and schematics
- Experience in HVAC, energy-systems, or industrial equipment sectors preferred
- Proficiency in CREO, SolidWorks, or other 3D modeling software
- Strong knowledge of design for manufacturability (DFM) principles
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and processes preferred
- Experience in designing and working with systems such as chillers, boilers, heat exchangers, piping, and structural frames
- Understanding of welding, brazing, mechanical assemblies, and piping system design
- Familiarity with working with vendors and contract manufacturers to refine and optimize designs
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements for equipment design
- Experience implementing temperature and pressure sensing systems
- Understanding of simple electrical components such as relays, diodes, etc.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong interpersonal skills
