Job Description
Job Title:
Mechanical Engineer Job Description This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on researching, designing, developing, testing, certifying, deploying, and improving advanced products and services across a broad range of applications, from mission payloads and electronic systems to highly integrated aircraft and space exploration systems. You will conceptualize and deliver complex mechanical structures and systems, contributing to the design and development of new products and processes throughout the full product lifecycle. This position offers the opportunity to work on high-visibility aerospace programs involving the modification of commercial aircraft into sophisticated defense and surveillance platforms. Responsibilities + Research, design, and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for advanced aerospace applications. + Conceptualize and deliver complex mechanical structures and systems that meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements. + Use Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) tools, with a focus on CATIA V5/V6 or similar platforms, to create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings. + Participate in the full product lifecycle, from initial concept and requirements definition through design, analysis, testing, certification, deployment, and continuous improvement. + Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary design and development teams, including systems, electrical, structural, and manufacturing engineers, to ensure integrated solutions. + Apply and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) perASME Y14.5
to ensure clear, manufacturable, and inspectable designs. + Support and interpret engineering simulations, including Finite Element structural Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and Thermal Analysis, to validate and optimize designs. + Incorporate industry-standard mechanical design principles such as parametric design, model-based definition, material and hardware selection, and appropriate manufacturing and production processes. + Contribute to the modification and integration of systems on commercial derivative aircraft, such as converting business jets into specialized defense and surveillance platforms. + Participate in design reviews, provide technical input, and document design decisions, analysis results, and engineering changes. + Ensure designs comply with applicable standards, customer requirements, and internal quality processes. + Support troubleshooting and resolution of mechanical design issues identified during build, test, or operation. + Work within program schedules and priorities to deliver high-quality engineering outputs on time. Essential Skills + Practical knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices. + Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools, preferably CATIA V5 or V6; other recent versions of CATIA, CREO, or NX are acceptable to demonstrate ability to quickly learn CATIA. + Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams. + Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance. + Mechanical design experience using modern CAD/CAE platforms. + 2 to 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering or closely related design roles. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience in the aerospace and defense industry. + Experience with commercial derivative aircraft, including modification of business jets for specialized missions. + Familiarity with applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) perASME Y14.5.
+ Understanding of engineering simulation methods such as Finite Element structural Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and Thermal Analysis. + Knowledge of industry-standard mechanical design principles, including parametric design and model-based definition. + Experience with material and hardware selection appropriate for aerospace applications. + Understanding of manufacturing and production processes relevant to mechanical and aerospace components. + Experience with CATIA V5 or V6, with strong proficiency in 3D modeling and mechanical design. + Exposure to or interest in aerospace defense programs and missionized aircraft. Work Environment You will work as part of a growing Mechanical Engineering team that currently includes approximately a dozen engineers and is expected to expand significantly. The environment is collaborative and project-driven, with close interaction across disciplines to deliver complex aerospace solutions. The role is primarily performed in an indoor engineering office and lab setting, with only rare exposure to outdoor elements such as high or low temperatures, sun, rain, or snow. You may infrequently encounter fumes or hazardous materials and occasional loud noises, typically associated with test or hangar environments. Physical activities include frequent walking, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs or steps, as well as frequent repetitive hand, arm, and finger motions requiring fine dexterity. Lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds occurs rarely. You will use modern engineering workstations and CAE tools such as CATIA (V5/V6), and may interface with aircraft and systems in hangar or lab environments as needed to support design, integration, and testing. Attire is generally consistent with a professional engineering office, with appropriate safety gear when working in lab, shop, or hangar areas.
