Mechanical Design Engineer Job Type:
Full-Time Pay:
Salary based on experience + overtime and double time opportunities
Overtime:
Paid after 40 hours; Double Time after 58 hours Join Our Engineering Team We are seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to help develop the next generation of advanced machine tools. This role is responsible for designing and analyzing mechanical systems, components, and assemblies from concept through production, while collaborating closely with manufacturing, controls engineering, sales, and service teams. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys hands-on involvement, solving complex technical challenges, and seeing projects through from design to machine startup. Key Responsibilities Mechanical Design & Development Design and develop mechanical systems, machine tooling, components, and assemblies to meet customer requirements and internal engineering standards. Optimize designs for manufacturability, serviceability, reliability, cost, space utilization, performance, and safety. Improve existing products and develop new designs and standard components based on lessons learned from machine builds, testing, service, and customer feedback. Create and maintain accurate 3D models, engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), part numbers, and related engineering documentation. Evaluate emerging technologies, components, and design approaches for potential implementation. Project Management & Execution Own the mechanical engineering scope of assigned machine projects from concept through completion. Estimate and manage engineering hours, project schedules, and mechanical engineering budgets. Coordinate project requirements with Controls Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, and other stakeholders. Determine when work should be completed internally versus outsourced based on resources, cost, technical requirements, and project timelines. Obtain competitive quotations for outsourced engineering, fabrication, and component requirements. Identify long-lead items and provide technical specifications to support purchasing activities. Prepare and maintain engineering documentation for customer reviews, approvals, shipments, and final machine acceptance. Build Support & Customer Engagement Work directly with shop personnel during machine builds, startup, debugging, and runoff activities. Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues to ensure equipment performs as intended. Support field service technicians during customer installations and machine acceptance as needed. Participate in customer and internal project meetings to discuss schedules, technical requirements, and project progress. Provide technical support to Sales and Aftermarket Parts departments. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. 3-5 years of experience in machine tools, automation equipment, capital equipment, precision machining, or a related industry. Experience with engines or powertrains is a plus. Proficiency with SolidWorks (preferred) and working knowledge of AutoCAD . Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and ERP systems. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Self-motivated with excellent organizational and project management abilities. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable working both in an office environment and on the production floor. Ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 10-15% as required.
