Job Description
We are looking for an Innovative, Problem-Solving Partner to join us as a Senior Machine Designer in our Automation division. In this role you will focus on the design of automated manufacturing equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop 3D mechanical designs for automated manufacturing equipment in accordance with customer requirements, project specifications, and AutoMatrix design standards. Analyze engineering sketches, specifications, customer data, and related documentation to determine design requirements. Create accurate 2D detail drawings and assembly layouts using proper dimensioning and GD&T practices. Complete full engineering release packages, including drawings, bills of materials, calculations, and required technical documentation. Coordinate assigned outsourced mechanical-design packages when needed, including: Providing technical information and design direction. Serving as the day-to-day technical contact for the outside designer. Reviewing/tracking models, drawings, and bills of materials. Develop sequence charts and perform cycle-time evaluations to validate operator and machine cycle times. Communicate design concepts, technical decisions, project status, and open issues to customers and internal project teams. Maintain professional and positive relationships with internal teams, customers, suppliers, and outside design partners. Assist in mentoring and developing other machine designers. Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications and Competencies:
Education and Experience Associate or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical design, or a related field, or an appropriate combination of education and relevant experience. Technical Skills Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability. Working knowledge of custom automation equipment, manufacturing, tooling, pneumatics, linear motion, machine guarding, and production environments. Ability to read and interpret customer specifications, operating procedures, design requirements, technical diagrams, and industry standards. Strong understanding of manufacturing drawings, dimensioning practices, and GD&T. Ability to review the technical quality and completeness of work produced by outside design partners. Ability to prepare clear technical reports and correspondence. Computer Skills Proficiency in 3D mechanical modeling, preferably SolidWorks or Catia. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
