Melton Machine and Control Company (MMCC) is a leading designer and builder of custom automated welding machines and fixtures. We are dedicated to providing innovative solutions for factory automation across various industries. The Mechanical Engineering Co-Op supports the Engineering Department through hands-on involvement in the design, detailing, documentation, and support of automated manufacturing equipment, welding systems, and custom fixtures. This role provides students with practical engineering experience in mechanical design, manufacturing processes, and automation systems within a collaborative project-based environment. The position works closely with Mechanical Engineers and cross-functional teams to support project execution activities including 3D modeling, drawing creation, bill of material development, design reviews, and manufacturing support. The Mechanical Engineering Co-Op contributes to active automation projects while developing technical skills and operational knowledge related to custom machine design and industrial automation systems. Mechanical Design & Documentation Assist with mechanical design, detailing, and documentation of automated welding machines, fixtures, and related equipment. Utilize 3D CAD software to create, revise, and maintain engineering models and drawings. Support creation and maintenance of bills of material and project documentation packages. Assist with engineering change updates and design revisions throughout project execution. Maintain organized engineering files, drawings, and documentation records. Project & Engineering Support Collaborate with Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations teams to support project execution. Support project teams by assisting with technical problem solving and engineering-related tasks. Assist with maintaining engineering standards, documentation accuracy, and design consistency. Support project schedules and engineering deliverables as assigned. Manufacturing & Operational Support Assist Manufacturing and Assembly teams with design clarification and technical support activities. Support troubleshooting and resolution of mechanical design or assembly-related concerns. Participate in equipment reviews, fit-up evaluations, and operational support activities where applicable. Assist with continuous improvement initiatives related to engineering processes, documentation, and manufacturing efficiency. Safety & Continuous Improvement Maintain organized workspaces, engineering documentation, and project records. Support safe work practices and compliance with company safety procedures. Participate in team meetings, engineering discussions, and process improvement initiatives. Stay informed on emerging technologies, design tools, and engineering practices related to industrial automation and machine design.Requirements:
Required:
Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Effective communication and teamwork abilities. Ability to manage multiple assignments and work independently when required. Interest in machine design, manufacturing, automation, or industrial engineering environments.Preferred:
Familiarity with 3D CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks. Exposure to mechanical drafting, manufacturing processes, or automated equipment design. Familiarity with engineering drawings, bills of material, and design documentation. Experience through coursework, projects, internships, or labs related to mechanical engineering or automation systems.Benefits
