Mechanical Engineering Intern

Position Description

Mechanical Engineering Intern at Cushing Terrell. This is an in-person internship supporting our Mechanical Engineering team on real client projects.

What does this role involve day to day? You will gain hands-on experience performing engineering calculations and designing mechanical systems, including building heating and cooling load calculations.

What will I create? You will help model mechanical and plumbing systems in Revit and AutoCAD, schedule mechanical equipment, andpile project specifications.

What does success look like in this internship? You will review building codes and standards, including IMC, UPC, and ASHRAE, participate in site visits before and during construction, and leave with a clear picture of what it means to work in the AEC industry.

Position Wage Range


  • The expected wage range for this position is $21.00 to $26.00 per hour.
    Required Qualifications
  • Completion of 3+ years of a mechanical engineering or related undergraduate program
    Basic knowledge of Revit or AutoCAD
    Basic knowledge of Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and Bluebeam
    Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn and adapt
    Ability to effectively collaborate andmunicate with team members across disciplines
    Strong written and verbalmunication skills
    Preferred Qualifications•Exposure to heating and cooling load calculations
    Interest in mechanical or plumbing system design
    Familiarity with IMC, UPC, ASHRAE, or local building codes

Position Responsibilities

  • Assist with engineering calculations and mechanical system design, including heating and cooling load calculations
    Support the modeling of mechanical and plumbing systems in Revit and AutoCAD schedule mechanical equipment andpile project specifications
    Review building codes and standards, including IMC, UPC, and ASHRAE
    Collaborate with teams across offices and project locations
    Attend site visits before and during construction with project leads
    Gain exposure to the variety of project types and teams across the firm

Things to Note

  • Actual pay will be determined based on the candidate's years of experience, licensure status, location, level of proficiency, and other job-related factors (as permitted by law). This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Cushing Terrell will not sponsor applicants for work visas.
  • The majority of the time, a person in this role will be sitting in an office with limited physical requirements.

This may require individuals to bend, stretch, twist, and reach.
