Full Job Description About Swift Universal:
Swift Universal Optical Systems designs and manufactures products for night vision, weapon, vehicle, and aerospace applications. Founded in 2016 and based out of Spring Lake, NC, we serve primarily DoD and US Government customers. We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, can work effectively in a fast-paced iterative design environment, and is passionate about developing innovative solutions.
Job Brief:
In this role, you will design, model, and prototype advanced mechanical solutions for ground and vehicle based military programs. You will work to analyze and evaluate a wide variety of mechanical solutions to meet the mission's requirements. You will have great latitude to be creative, conceiving and testing various approaches to determine which is best suited to meet the technical and programmatic objectives. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team to recommend candidate approaches and support the development of operational prototypes. You will document program progress and identify key system attributes for customer review and evaluation.

Full Time Position Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and evaluate candidate approaches that meet customer requirements, either stated or derived, while considering manufacturability and cost targets through an iterative approach. Work collaboratively with engineering, manufacturing, and inspection departments to support prototyping, production, inspection, and assembly activities. Develop creative solutions to meet customer and internal requirements. Develop Models, Moving Mechanical Assemblies, Technical Drawings, and Interface Control Documents using SolidWorks. Maintain component designs using
ASME Y14.5-2018 & GD&T
standards to drive product definition. Generate and maintain technical documentation, including CAD models, technical drawings, bills of materials (BOM), and product specifications in an organized fashion. Adhere to company policies and procedures while maintaining accurate version history in a fast paced iterative and collaborative environment. Independently facilitate design iteration through additive prototyping. Strong familiarity with 3D Printing technologies and processes, including the ability to prepare and optimize CAD models for 3D Printing (e.g., FDM, SLA, SLS) and experience with post processing and testing using 3D printed components. Participate in design reviews, providing feedback on design feasibility and performance. Document and action upon identified improvements from collaborative meetings. Support Product Release Activities Including Technical Documentation, Assembly, and Qualification Research emerging technologies to develop novel concepts for existing and future product designs Support root cause investigations and corrective actions as necessary to resolve production and design issues. Champion superior ethical and professional behavior in all situations. Adhere to all Government and Company security policies maintaining compliance with all confidentiality requirements inside and outside the workplace.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications/Experience:
Preferred Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably aerospace, mechanical, biomedical, or industrial. (Minimum Associates Degree) Possess a high mechanical aptitude and have experience with basic Metrology techniques, best practices, and methods. Understanding of common manufacturing and post processing methods for machined and fabricated assemblies. Minimum of 2 years in a professional product development, engineering, or manufacturing environment Minimum 4 years SolidWorks Experience Basic knowledge of static and dynamic structural FEA analysis Superior software adaptability with a strong computer aptitude Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to balance demands of multiple fast paced projects Lean/Six Sigma Certificate (Preferred) Must be able to sit for extended periods and be available for limited travel
