Job Description

Description Permanent position for a Senior Mechanical Engineer at an industrial engineering and design firm serving power generation. Perform ASME code pressure-boundary sizing calculations for tubing, piping, headers, and vessels. Execute thermal and mechanical design of boiler pressure and non-pressure parts against actual service loads and allowable stresses. Run structural load calculations across boiler assemblies. Recommend materials for pressure, non-pressure, and structural applications, and adjudicate substitution requests. Monitor ASME code revisions and drive corresponding updates to internal calculation databases and programs. Review arrangement, detail, and shop drawings, and support designers with technical interpretation and guidance. Design custom lifting frames and rigging fixtures, and evaluate installation openings and erection sequencing. Coordinate deliverables and information flow with design contractors. Conduct field visits to inspect equipment and collect data for proposals and contracts. Requirements BS Mechanical Engineering. Minimum 10 years of industry experience. Direct experience designing utility and industrial-scale boilers and steam generators. Working understanding of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and piping codes. Demonstrated pressure part design experience. Familiarity with boiler internals including headers, superheater and reheater tube banks, water and steam transfer tubing etc. Experience with high-energy piping and broader power plant equipment. Experience leading and mentoring designers and engineers. Proficiency with AutoCAD, 2D and 3D. #ERGx
