SMSI, LLC
is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support capital construction projects for a variety of clients and projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This position requires working onsite in Los Alamos at LANL. Responsibilities Coordinate deliverables for construction closeout and turnover package development including review and closure of all subcontractor submittals, construction and verification test data, and subcontractor as-built documentation. Prepare engineering closeout documentation as part of client engineering verification of the construction turnover documentation. Provide Project Engineering expertise for development and management of project requirements, and verification / tracking of implementation of requirements through the project life cycle. Supervise the engineering activity (all disciplines) on a project, or designated portions of a project, for a global business unit. Plan and direct engineering assignments on the project. Demonstrate technical responsibilities for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating these assignments. Required Skills/ Abilities Minimum of 4 years of related experience. Demonstrated understanding of capital construction projects (i.e., understand role of contractor, designer, owner). Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent leadership and organizational skills. Capability to organize project documentation using various means (e.g., spreadsheets, databases). Capability with MS Office Suite and ability/willingness to learn new software packages. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with clients, contractors, and consultant on a day-to-day basis. Self-starter with ability to work with limited oversight. Candidates must be able to work onsite at LANL. Specialized courses in relevant general engineering, architectural design or an appropriate engineering discipline, and progressive work experience, including supervision, preferably in project design engineering; may include other relevant types of engineering including startup, field engineering or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities, process plants or engineering/construction firms. U.S. Citizenship is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Q clearance. Desired Skills Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred but not required: Previous experience working at LANL and/or nuclear facilities is preferred but not required. An active or recently inactive DOE Q or DOD Top Secret clearance is a plus. Education Candidates should meet one of the following: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field plus 4 years of experience OR Associate's degree with 6 years of experience, OR high school diploma plus 10 years of experience. Physical Requirements Ability to perform walk downs onsite. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.
