Job Description
Position Summary Mack Studios is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to develop production-ready engineering for custom exhibits, retail fixtures, branded environments, and experiential displays. This is a hands-on working position responsible for engineering projects that incorporate wood, millwork, metal fabrication, hardware, lighting, and specialty components from design through fabrication and installation. Key Responsibilities Develop production-ready engineering for custom millwork, metal fabrication, fixtures, exhibits, and displays. Create detailed shop drawings, production and assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and fabrication packages. Engineer components and assemblies using wood, plywood, MDF, laminates, steel, aluminum, plastics, and specialty materials. Create CNC router and laser programming files for wood and metal fabrication with Master Cam. Translate architectural drawings, design concepts, and project specifications into accurate, manufacturable designs. Determine appropriate hardware, fasteners, connection methods, structural supports, and assembly methods. Incorporate lighting, wiring pathways, and electrical or interactive components into designs as required. Engineer projects with consideration for materials, tolerances, fabrication methods, assembly, shipping, and installation. Work directly with project management, design, estimating, purchasing, graphics, fabrication, and installation teams to complete assigned projects. Provide hands-on technical support to woodworking, CNC, metal fabrication, and assembly teams during production. Troubleshoot fabrication, fit, assembly, and installation issues and make necessary engineering revisions. Communicate with vendors and outside fabricators regarding materials, hardware, and specialty components as needed. Participate in project kickoffs, prototype and mockup development, field measurements, and installations. Manage assigned workload and priorities to meet project specifications, budgets, and production schedules. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience in custom fabrication, millwork, architectural woodwork, metal fabrication, retail fixtures, exhibits, displays, or a related manufacturing environment. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, or similar 2D/3D engineering software . Strong working knowledge of woodworking, millwork, and metal fabrication , including CNC machining, welding, forming, fastening, and assembly methods. Experience producing detailed, production-ready drawings and fabrication documentation. Working knowledge of wood products, steel, aluminum, plastics, hardware, and specialty materials. Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, design drawings, specifications, and technical documentation. Experience with CNC programming and manufacturing workflows preferred. Strong mechanical aptitude, technical problem-solving skills, and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple assignments and changing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with both office and production personnel. Familiarity with LED lighting, wiring, electrical systems, and interactive components is a plus. Work Environment This is a hands-on, individual contributor position with no supervisory responsibilities . The Mechanical Engineer will work directly on assigned projects and regularly spend time on the production floor supporting woodworking, CNC, metal fabrication, assembly, and installation activities. Work is performed in both office and manufacturing environments. Occasional travel to project and installation sites may be required.
