We are seeking a Senior Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) Engineer with hands-on experience designing, developing, building, and testing solid rocket motors. This role involves leading motor development from initial requirements and conceptual design through detailed engineering, hardware fabrication, assembly, static testing, and production readiness. The ideal candidate combines strong propulsion engineering expertise with practical hardware experience, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to lead technical projects in a fast-paced development environment. The key qualification is demonstrated experience taking a solid rocket motor from engineering design through hardware fabrication and successful testing.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead solid rocket motor development programs from concept and preliminary design through testing and production maturation. Design and integrate SRM components and subsystems, including motor cases, propellant grains, insulation, liners, igniters, nozzles, closures, and interfaces. Perform and review propulsion performance, structural, thermal, mass-properties, and design-trade analyses. Develop and review engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and configuration-controlled documentation. Collaborate with manufacturing teams and suppliers to resolve design and producibility challenges. Support motor assembly, instrumentation, static-fire testing, data analysis, post-test evaluations, and design improvements. Drive design-for-manufacturing initiatives to improve product consistency, cost-effectiveness, and production readiness. Provide technical leadership, coordinate cross-functional engineering activities, and mentor engineers and technicians. Support program planning, technical risk management, and design, build, test, and production-readiness reviews.
Education & Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Propulsion, or a closely related engineering discipline; advanced degree preferred. At least 5 years of directly relevant solid rocket motor design and development experience; 10+ years preferred. Demonstrated hands-on experience designing and building solid rocket motors, including meaningful involvement in motor assembly and static-fire or flight testing. Strong understanding of solid rocket motor design, propulsion performance, materials, manufacturing processes, and system integration. Ability to independently lead technical development activities and make sound engineering decisions in a hardware-focused environment. Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Experience:
Experience with rapid prototyping, tactical propulsion systems, advanced manufacturing, or high-rate production. Background in motor case and nozzle design, thermal protection systems, igniters, structural analysis, or test instrumentation. Experience with qualification testing, production transition, supplier development, and root-cause investigations. Proven ability to lead engineering teams through design reviews, hardware build readiness, test readiness, and production milestones.
