Job Title:
Project Engineer - Infrastructure Job Description The Project Engineer - Infrastructure plays a key role in delivering complex, multidisciplinary industrial projects by coordinating engineering activities, maintaining project scope and quality, and supporting schedule and procurement needs. This position works closely with engineering, project management, procurement, and external stakeholders to ensure that infrastructure projects are planned, executed, and commissioned effectively and efficiently. Responsibilities Coordinate engineering input to support the development and maintenance of detailed project schedules. Collaborate with department leaders and other stakeholders to ensure alignment, effective planning, and successful project execution. Work closely with the engineering department and project managers to ensure adherence to project schedules, including all activities required to support procurement. Monitor and coordinate schedule updates, engineering submittals, and related documentation throughout the project lifecycle. Liaise with internal and external clients to determine applicable design codes and establish overall design criteria for projects. Ensure all engineering work complies with approved manuals, procedures, and established standards. Maintain engineering scope and project intent by interpreting scope documents, identifying budget deviations, and assessing potential change orders. Coordinate cost and schedule impacts of scope changes with project managers and other stakeholders. Implement approved project changes and clearly communicate associated schedule impacts to relevant managers and teams. Verify adherence to project quality processes and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering deliverables. Conduct recurring design coordination meetings with project teams to promote cross-departmental collaboration and resolve technical issues. Coordinate with Project Management and Procurement to establish and maintain proper document distribution for internal and external stakeholders. Manage engineering field support and communication using the Request for Information (RFI) system, ensuring timely and accurate responses. Review and provide engineering input for weekly and monthly project status reports, including cost updates and potential changes. Participate in project review meetings to report on engineering progress, risks, and opportunities. Support commissioning and start-up activities by applying project management and engineering standards and documentation practices. Perform other engineering and project-related responsibilities as required or assigned to support successful project outcomes. Essential Skills Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering. 5+ years of experience leading multidisciplinary projects that include mechanical, structural, electrical, and control systems in the execution of projects and proposals. Experience with engineered fixed equipment within the industrial machinery space. Demonstrated experience in project management, including planning, coordination, and execution of engineering activities. Experience with procurement processes and standards, including supporting procurement by ensuring engineering deliverables are released on time. Experience with commissioning and start-up standards and documentation for industrial systems or equipment. Ability to coordinate engineering activities against project schedules and manage schedule impacts related to engineering deliverables. Background in industrial manufacturing, including manufacturing methods and design. Experience with mechanical systems, electrical systems, and control systems in an industrial environment. Experience with sheet metal, machining, and fabrication processes. Proficiency with SolidWorks for design and engineering tasks. Experience with commissioning activities for industrial or infrastructure projects. Strong customer interfacing skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal and external clients. Ability to interpret and maintain engineering scope, identify budget deviations, and evaluate potential change orders. Strong organizational and communication skills to support cross-functional coordination and reporting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with HVAC systems and related commissioning activities. Exposure to computational tools such as CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and FEA (Finite Element Analysis). Experience with root cause analysis and problem-solving in an industrial or project environment. Familiarity with Revit or similar design and modeling tools. Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is a plus. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus. Experience with process development in an industrial or manufacturing setting. Background in material handling systems is highly desirable. Experience with abrasive blasting or corrosion-control equipment is a plus. Experience working with industrial fixed equipment beyond core machinery is beneficial. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a growing organization and contribute to a positive, collaborative culture. Work Environment This role is based in an updated, open office environment that supports collaboration and communication among engineering, project management, and procurement teams. The standard schedule runs Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with some flexibility as required by project needs. Approximately 20% of the time is spent visiting job sites and attending client meetings, providing exposure to active industrial environments and installed equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbus, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $48.08 - $57.69/hr.
