Mechanical Design Engineer Job Description We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join a company specializing in designing and manufacturing industrial automated equipment. This position is a 9-month Contract-to-Hire role located in the Greater Columbus region. During the contract period, you will receive accrued PTO, holiday pay, a 401k, and benefits/insurance. Upon successful completion of the contract, you will be eligible for a direct hire. Responsibilities Collaborate with project managers and team members to assess project assignments and ideas. Engage in customer interaction and communication. Design safe and cost-effective machine concepts, parts models, and assemblies based on customer requirements. Create detailed parts and assembly drawings with tolerances, and release them to the machine shop. Provide support to the machine shop regarding part detail drawings. Research and order components necessary for machine design, including pneumatic cylinders, valves, air prep systems, bearings, motors, drive systems, sensors, and other devices. Document bill of materials. Interface with and support Assembly, Electrical, and Software Design teams. Essential Skills Experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer with a focus on 3D design for machine or industrial equipment. Proficiency in SolidWorks is strongly preferred. Experience with automated equipment is preferred. Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience (8+ years as a Design Engineer with SolidWorks). 5+ years of experience in 3D design for machine or industrial equipment. Proficiency in CAD software with 3D modeling experience. Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Experience with Bill of Materials (BoM) documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with equipment layout and facility layout is beneficial. Exposure to high-volume manufacturing equipment design is advantageous. Work Environment The position involves working in an office environment with occasional interactions on the shop floor. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lewis Center, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.87 - $48.08/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
