Mechanical Engineer at Webb Stiles Company Job Summary Webb-Stiles Company is seeking a self-motivated mechanical engineer with practical experience to join our team. Webb-Stiles designs and manufactures custom conveyor systems and material handling solutions to meet our customers applications. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be involved in the design of specialty equipment with capacities ranging 25 to 250,000+ lb. A mechanical/design engineer (ME) at Webb-Stiles is responsible for the design and project management of our equipment. They are involved with all product stages from initial application specifications, to design and development, to manufacturing, through final testing and commissioning. They will work with vendors and material suppliers to specify the best and most cost effective components and materials for use in equipment. They will develop innovative ideas to solve difficult problems and integrate existing designs and components into new equipment. A ME must be able to effectively communicate design requirements to fellow engineers, and the manufacturing shop floor. They must be capable of learning on the job and working solo or in a team. Good project management and organizational skills are a must. Responsibilities Mechanical Design and Engineering Using Autodesk Inventor 3d software, design material handling equipment by applying knowledge of engineering principles. Read, interpret, and apply company and national safety standards to ensure compliance. Identify and select materials and components needed for equipment. Apply knowledge of manufacturing techniques to design readily manufacturable parts and systems. Research and analyze customer design requirements and specifications to evaluate feasibility and costs. Contribute to design standards and support design reuse. Travel to customer facilities to evaluate system requirements. (Travel will usually be less than 4 weeks per year.) Investigate equipment failures to diagnose root cause and make recommendations for repairs. Mechanical Drawings Create mechanical drawings in accordance with company standards. Calculate and apply tolerances to engineering drawings to ensure fit, form, and function of mechanical parts. Generate and maintain bills of material on engineering drawings. Assign drawing numbers and descriptions in accordance with company standards. Effectively communicate all above requirements to shop fabrication personnel. Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience Computer Software Autodesk Inventor (Preferred) AutoCAD Mechanical Microsoft Office suite Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or similar discipline. (Preferred) Webb-Stiles values proven experience and a verifiable track record. Individuals willing to prove their knowledge and proficiency in the field may apply if they have not completed the degree(s) noted above. Experience in the design of material handling and conveying equipment is (Preferred). Design of machinery which integrates mechanical and pneumatic/hydraulic systems will also be considered. 4+ years of experience in a relevant field.
