CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED
Do you enjoy: Tackling completely new machine designs every few months Leading a team of mechanical designers and helping them do their best work Setting the standards that make machines reliable, repeatable, and easy to build A working lead role: ~70% machine design, 15% team leadership and planning, 15% shop floor troubleshooting and junior engineer support Making a visible impact at a small company where hard work gets noticed About the Role Engineered Vision is an automation engineering firm where you'll lead the mechanical design of a completely new custom machine every few months, from concept through deployment. We're a small, growing shop dedicated to improving how factory automation projects are delivered, through transparency, quality, and speed, often serving demanding industries like med-tech. As our Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll own the mechanical side of every project and the team that designs it.
Our goal is simple:
machines that just run. You'll build the standards, reviews, and team habits that get us there. If you want real ownership and to see your work ship, this is your shop. How We Work We run on EOS (the Entrepreneurial Operating System). Every role has a clear set of responsibilities and a few weekly numbers that show whether things are on track. It also means keeping expectations clear, holding regular one-on-ones and team meetings, and recognizing good work. Finally, it means holding each person to our core values, their responsibilities, and their measurables, and addressing gaps quickly and directly. You'll own your department's scorecard numbers, and when one is off track, you'll lead the team in solving it. What You'll Do Lead, manage, and hold the mechanical design team accountable Set and enforce mechanical design, SolidWorks, and PDM standards Build and maintain a library of standardized hardware and mechanisms to make designs faster, more reliable, and easier to cost Own mechanical design reviews and ensure the team follows Good Engineering Practice Assign ME resources across projects and notify Operations of upcoming manpower gaps Provide mechanical hardware cost estimates at concept design review so projects stay on quoted budget Own mechanical engineering measurables, including design errors, functional redesigns, run-off stoppages, hours vs. budget, and on-time design release, and drive continuous improvement with the team and Operations Design automated machines, fixtures, and tooling in SolidWorks, and create Engineering Orders and design revisions Mentor junior engineers and support the team on the shop floor during build, debug, and FAT Occasional travel (less than 5%) for customer installations and site visits Required Qualifications U.S. Citizenship (required for government project work; green card holders are not eligible for these contracts) Based in or willing to relocate to the Columbus, Ohio area Minimum 4 years of experience in machine design Proficiency in SolidWorks and PDM Strong knowledge of mechanical design fundamentals: mechanisms, motion, tolerancing, GD&T, material selection, and design for manufacturing and assembly Experience taking machines from concept through build, debug, and run-off B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of custom industrial automation design experience with a machine builder Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading or managing a design team Experience creating or enforcing design standards and standard component libraries Experience designing for robotic, vision, and servo-driven systems Experience with pneumatic, linear motion, and precision automation components Med-tech or regulated industry experience About Us Engineered Vision is a small but rapidly growing custom machine builder specializing in newer technologies: robots, machine vision, and motion control. We opened our doors to deliver affordable automation, fast, with typical project sizes ranging from $100K to $2MM. Our ability to pair the latest technologies with real industry needs and a strong ROI has positioned us well in the factory automation space, including precision-driven sectors like med-tech. We consider our shop an engineer's playground: robots, machine vision, CNC machining, 3D printing, and more. We're looking forward to working with you.
