Mechanical Design Engineer We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of machinery, equipment, and fabricated assemblies. This role combines hands-on design, project engineering, and ERP system work, with responsibility for detailed drawings and accurate bills of materials that support fabrication and assembly. Key Responsibilities Design mechanical equipment and assemblies, including sheet metal and fabricated components, down to individual nuts, bolts, and connections. Create and maintain accurate 2D drawings and 3D models using Autodesk Inventor. Develop and maintain bills of materials, understanding how missing parts, incorrect dimensions, or other errors affect purchasing, fabrication, and assembly. Make informed engineering decisions regarding material thickness, component selection, assembly methods, and overall design. Apply stress analysis principles to ensure components and assemblies meet structural and operating requirements. Design systems incorporating motion components such as electric motors, gears, belts, and pneumatic devices. Support projects and product lines, coordinating design details with manufacturing and electrical engineering teams. Maintain engineering information within the ERP system. Qualifications Targeting 5+ years of mechanical design engineering experience, with flexibility for candidates who demonstrate strong relevant skills. Experience designing machinery, equipment, or mechanical assemblies within a metal fabrication or assembly environment. Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication, fabricated assemblies, and practical manufacturing methods. Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor preferred; SolidWorks experience considered. Experience producing detailed 2D drawings, 3D models, and accurate bills of materials. Working knowledge of mechanical motion, stress analysis, and pneumatic systems. Pneumatics experience is more relevant to this role than hydraulics. Ability to take ownership of design decisions and understand their impact throughout production. Familiarity with electrical components and their integration into mechanical equipment is beneficial. Experience designing assembly line equipment or machinery used for repetitive operations may be applicable. Preferred Skills Plasma CNC equipment experience. Exposure to waterjet cutting. Ladder logic knowledge. Robotics experience
