We are seeking a Mechanical Design & Build Engineer who is precise, resourceful, and hard-working. Beyond designing the mechanical portions of our automation systems, this role owns the build — completing the fabrication and assembly needed to ensure proper function on the shop floor. Position Summary The Mechanical Design & Build Engineer uses fabrication and assembly experience to design the mechanical portions of automation solutions in SolidWorks, working within the budget and resulting in a successful system. Beyond design, the role is a builder for mechanical assembly on the production floor, completing any fabrication needed and documenting design changes as they're discovered during assembly. The role is 100% on-site in Lititz, PA, with up to 5% travel, mostly for on-site installations or retrofits. What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months) Support the project managers with completing the mechanical design details for 4 systems independently. Serve as the primary builder for mechanical assembly on 8 systems on the production floor, incorporating design changes discovered at assembly back into drawings to ensure proper fabrication for future systems. Support materials management functions of receiving and organizing project materials. Improve operational efficiency by developing SolidWorks templates, material properties and design standards that align with our vendors' processes and materials . Key Responsibilities Mechanical Design
- 35% Responsible for the mechanical design of automation solutions that meet the defined project functional scope and budget requirements using SolidWorks and PDM.
Collaborate with electrical and controls team members to ensure that the mechanical solutions integrate with and support the entire automation system scope. Work with project managers to incorporate necessary design changes identified in project build to ensure we are continuously improving our designs and minimizing rework. Mechanical Build
- 35% Serve as the primary builder for mechanical assembly on production floor systems. Complete any fabrication needed to ensure proper fit and function, documenting design changes. Machining & Fabrication
- 10% Perform machining and fabrication (mill, lathe, hand tools) in support of assembly and rapid prototyping. Support the advancement of our design standards to align with our quality expectations, vendor capability and design for manufacturing principles with the goal of fabrication efficiency and customer satisfaction. - 10% Support materials management functions, including receiving, allocating, and organizing project materials.
Electrical / Software
Support Functions
- 10% Support electrical hardware wiring tasks and assist build team with software functional verification and testing as needed with products such as PLC's, HMI's, Robots and Vision systems.
Qualifications Experience, Education, Skills 4-year Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent experience. 5 years of SolidWorks experience. 3 years of machining experience and extensive experience working with your hands. Working knowledge of electrical wiring and industrial systems (PLCs, robots, conveyors). Self-sufficient, resourceful and detail-oriented, with a dedicated commitment to documentation.
