Warren, MI Schedule:
1st Shift | 8:00 AM 5:00
PM Pay:
$50-54/hour
Work Environment:
Primarily onsite with limited remote flexibility Long term contract to hire Position Overview We are seeking Project Engineers to support exterior lighting design and release activities for advanced vehicle programs. This role is responsible for the design, development, release, and continuous improvement of exterior lighting components including headlamps, tail lamps, and auxiliary lighting systems for both EV and ICE platforms. The engineer will collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, suppliers, and program teams to ensure lighting systems meet performance, timing, quality, and cost objectives. This position offers direct ownership of highly visible vehicle systems and exposure to cutting-edge lighting technologies and vehicle integration initiatives. Key Responsibilities Lead design and release activities for exterior lighting components and systems Manage component development from concept through launch and production support Coordinate cross-functional Product Development Team (PDT) activities Develop and maintain engineering documentation including: SORs ICDs DFMEAs DVP&R documentation Drawings and BOMs Perform CAD packaging and math data creation using NX and Teamcenter Drive issue resolution, root cause analysis, and corrective actions related to warranty, manufacturing, assembly plant, and supplier concerns Support quality improvement, cost reduction, and design optimization initiatives Participate in benchmarking activities and advanced technology reviews Collaborate closely with global suppliers to ensure successful program execution Balance design tradeoffs involving appearance, manufacturability, performance, timing, mass, and cost Required Qualifications Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline Minimum of 2 years of experience in: Exterior lighting design, OR Injection-molded plastic component design Strong experience with: NX Teamcenter / Unigraphics CAD packaging and release processes
Knowledge of:
GD&T DFMEA DVP&R
SOR and ICD development Drawing and BOM creation Experience leading or participating in cross-functional engineering teams Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced product development environment Preferred Qualifications Experience with exterior lighting regulations and installation requirements Full program lifecycle experience from concept through launch Experience working with global automotive suppliers Familiarity with lit mechanizations, feature communication graphics, and day/night architecture reviews Masters degree in Engineering or related discipline Top Skills Product Development Team leadership Exterior lighting or complex plastic component design Structured engineering processes and requirements management Why This Opportunity?
