Senior Mechanical Engineer - Building Systems Our search is underway for an established, growing engineering consulting firm seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to provide technical leadership and manage a diverse portfolio of building projects. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineer ready to move beyond individual design assignments and take greater ownership of projects, client relationships, and team development. You will lead projects through each phase, collaborate with architects and contractors, and mentor developing engineers—all while remaining closely connected to the technical work. What Makes This Opportunity Attractive Lead projects rather than simply completing assigned design tasks. Work on technically challenging, high-performance building systems. Manage projects from initial planning through construction. Build direct relationships with clients, architects, contractors, and consultants. Balance project leadership with hands-on mechanical design. Mentor developing engineers and help shape a collaborative team. Expand your experience in project management, client service, and technical leadership. Join a firm committed to sustainable design, innovation, and professional growth. Your Role As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will oversee multiple projects of varying sizes and complexity while serving as a trusted technical resource for clients and project teams. You will coordinate daily activities, maintain design quality, manage schedules, and help ensure successful project delivery. This is a first-level project-management position with responsibility for supervising team activities. Depending on project needs, you will also perform and review detailed mechanical design. Key Responsibilities Lead and coordinate the daily work of internal and external project-team members. Guide mechanical designs from concept through construction. Manage multiple projects through all phases of development. Establish project priorities and keep teams aligned with schedules and deliverables. Provide technical leadership in HVAC and mechanical building-system design. Perform individual technical design when required. Review project documents for technical accuracy, quality, and coordination. Understand project contracts, scopes of service, budgets, and delivery requirements. Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and other disciplines. Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, architects, contractors, and consultants. Respond promptly to client requests and communicate project information clearly. Build trusted relationships with clients and design-team partners. Take responsibility for the quality and timely delivery of assigned work. Partner with senior leadership to manage staffing needs, project schedules, and priorities. Mentor and support one or two developing engineers. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Approximately 5-12 years of professional mechanical engineering experience . Professional Engineer license highly preferred. Building-site or construction field experience required. Previous experience leading or helping manage project teams. People-management or mentoring experience strongly preferred. Advanced knowledge of building codes, mechanical engineering standards, drafting standards, and related building-system disciplines. Strong understanding of construction processes and the interpretation of construction drawings. Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit. Ability to manage several projects, schedules, and competing priorities. Strong technical judgment, organization, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written, verbal, and client-facing communication abilities. A collaborative leadership style and commitment to responsive client service. This position is also eligible for an annual performance-based bonus. Bonus eligibility and payment depend on the position, individual performance, and company performance and are not guaranteed. Apply Confidentially If you are ready to take the next step from experienced designer to technical and project leader, we encourage you to apply. #
