Our team of developers, engineers, and business analysts work together to improve automation, streamline logistics, and establish quality control for government organizations. Our team is seeking an experienced, customer-oriented Mechanical Engineer to support our Naval Surface Warfare customer based in Chesapeake, VA. Work will be remote with understanding that random ship checks will occur at Little Creek, Norfolk, and Newport News. Candidate must be in the area. The Mechanical Engineer will use their strong technical background and knowledge to support Military Sealift Command (MSC) engineering and design efforts. You will function as a technical expert in maintenance management, propulsion, auxiliary, and HVAC systems. This position is contingent based on award/funding from the customer. Responsibilities include but are are not limited to:
- Perform technical and engineering studies, including economic analyses and failure investigations for preventative and predictive maintenance
- Define, plan, and schedule technical work for ship maintenance repairs, and dry-docking
- Develop mechanical system calculations and HVAC load calculations, while interpreting ship drawings and equipment manuals to ensure system integrity
- Conduct failure analysis, technical studies, and troubleshoot propulsion, auxiliary, and HVAC to provide remedial recommendations
- Execute HVAC Calculations, Pressure Drop Calculations, and Thromostat & Reheat Design/Selection to ensure environmental system integrity
- Support the MSC by providing engineering recommendations for propulsion, shafting, and auxiliary shipboard systems
- Utilize specialized software for modeling and equipment selection methodology to meet complex marine design requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 5+ years of experience
- Experience with Optimoore, FEMAP, MathCAD, Pipe-Flo, AutoCAD, SKM, ANSYS, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Pro Required
- Experience with MSC preferred; experience with other vessels will be considered (CG, DDG, LCS, LHA, LSD, LHD, and maybe some carriers)
- Experience creating, maintaining, and communicating complex technical documentation and mechanical engineering studies
- Knowledge of marine industry
Active Secret Security Clearance Physical Requirements:
- Tasking is primarily computer based but occasional boat checks may be required of craft that are on trailers, in the water, or on ships so must be able to climb ladder wells on vessels
- Must be able to effectively communicate with co-workers, customers, and management through email, phone, and other virtual communication methods (e.g. Teams, Zoom)
- Walking and climbing. Ability to climb up to 4 flights of stairs
- Carrying and Lifting.
