Job Description

Mechanical Engineer Direct Hire Shelton, CT Salary:
$85,000/yr - $125,000/yr Position Overview We are seeking a motivated Forensic Mechanical Engineer (No prior forensic engineering experience need!) to perform comprehensive forensic investigations involving vehicle accident reconstruction, water loss origin and cause, workplace safety, product liability, and related failure analyses. In this role, you will gain hands-on engineering experience while applying sound physical and mechanical principles to assist clients with loss resolution, insurance claims, and litigation requirements. This position is ideal for a self-starting engineer who thrives in a dynamic, hybrid work environment rather than a traditional desk-bound role, enjoys working outdoors, and values a supportive, collaborative company culture.
Key Responsibilities Field Investigations:
Travel locally and overnight to incident sites to inspect physical evidence, perform mechanical evaluations, and assess property or vehicle damage.
Accident Reconstruction:
Evaluate motor vehicle crashes, conduct "black box" (EDR) data downloads, and recreate collision scenarios using advanced engineering analysis and simulation software.
Failure & Loss Analysis:
Determine origin, cause, and extent of failure in water loss incidents, product liability cases, and workplace safety incidents.
Project Management:
Manage forensic engineering projects from initial site inspection and concept through analysis, reporting, and completion.
Reporting & Litigation Support:
Prepare clear, detailed, and objective technical report findings; provide expert technical support for legal and insurance stakeholders.
Required Qualifications Education:
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Master of Science (M.S.) in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience:
3 to 5+ years of specialized mechanical engineering experience.
Licensure:
Prefer PE license but will take EIT cert. (will need to get their PE eventually.)
Technical Knowledge:
Strong foundation in core automotive and vehicle systems (powertrain, chassis, thermal systems, vehicle dynamics).
Travel & Physical Requirements:
Ability and willingness to travel on a day or overnight basis for field investigations and work comfortably outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Communication:
Superior written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical clients.
Professional Skills:
Proven time management and organizational abilities to independently handle deadlines, deliver timely client reports, and work seamlessly in a collaborative team environment.
Pay:
$85,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
