Job Description
Job Title:
Senior Mechanical Engineer - New Product Development Job Description The Senior Mechanical Engineer will design and develop innovative mechanical and electro-mechanical components and subsystems for industrial equipment within a new product development environment. Working as part of a cross-functional team, this role leads critical subsystem design efforts, creating solutions that meet performance, cost, and schedule requirements while delivering lasting competitive advantage. Responsibilities Serve as the technical lead for the design and development of critical mechanical and electro-mechanical subsystems within new product development projects. Apply mechanical engineering and scientific principles to create robust subsystem-level product designs that provide long-term competitive advantage. Generate new concepts to achieve the required functions of assigned mechanical and electro-mechanical subsystems. Establish performance specifications for subsystems and develop plans for how these specifications will evolve over time. Prepare preliminary layouts, 3D models, sketches, and schematic diagrams to analyze, communicate, and solve engineering problems. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, industrial design, and manufacturing, to ensure designs meet performance, product cost, and project schedule targets. Support the integration of subsystems into complete systems, ensuring proper fit, function, and reliability. Contribute to the development of new industrial and commercial products by providing strong hands-on engineering support throughout the design and development lifecycle. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent engineering discipline. 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience in product development. Demonstrated experience in mechanical product development engineering and integrated product development. Strong background in subsystem or system-level integration for mechanical and electro-mechanical products. Proficiency in mechanical design, including creating layouts, models, sketches, and schematic diagrams. Ability to translate functional requirements into clear subsystem performance specifications. Strong hands-on mechanical engineering and problem-solving skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with injection molding processes and/or low-cost manufacturing and design, ideally including consumer products. Six Sigma experience and familiarity with data-driven continuous improvement methods. Experience in the concept and design of human interface and operator environments. Knowledge of ergonomics and related standards, with the ability to apply them effectively in product designs. Experience collaborating with an industrial design team to align aesthetics, usability, and engineering requirements. Experience working with SAP for product data, materials, or processes. Experience with SAP ECTR or similar engineering change and product data management tools. Excellent practical, hands-on skills in prototyping, testing, and refining mechanical designs. Work Environment This role is primarily focused on design and development work, with approximately 90% of time dedicated to engineering design activities. The position supports both industrial and commercial product lines within an environment where products are engineered and manufactured on site, enabling close collaboration between design, development, and manufacturing teams. The work involves modern engineering tools for 3D modeling, layouts, and schematic creation, and includes interaction with cross-functional teams such as industrial design, product development, and operations. The environment emphasizes innovation, new product development, and providing opportunities to contribute to the creation of next-generation industrial equipment.
