in Deer Park, Illinois, United States Job Description Schaffler Motion Technologies, USA, LLC seeks a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer in Deer Park, IL to coordinate special projects for Electric Vehicle (EV) technology with a materials and mechatronics engineering development focus from concept inception through proof-of-design completion. This includes defining project scope, planning phase, design & development, and validation testing. An example of a special project includes press-fit market survey for high-power electric vehicle applications, focused on identifying new technology that is as reliable as current technology, with improved electrical current carrying capacity in connections between circuit boards and electrical bus bars. Responsible for project management and planning activities. Monitor project activities according to the plan timeline, following the purchase orders with suppliers and carrying out tests at U.S. facilities. Responsible for special projects for Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) Technology, including design, planning and development. Perform materials and process investigations of electronic modules technologies, using analysis methods including cross section, visual inspection by Optical Keyence Microscope, Scanning Electron Microscopy, strain measurement tests, press-in tests, press-out tests. Support and participate in the Failure Analysis laboratory, analyzing requests using cross section, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and x-ray analysis. Utilize DFSS methodology in research and development projects for HEV technology, adhesives, PCBs, and overmolded products. Use Six Sigma Tools, DFMEA, Gemba walks, Ishikawa diagram, 5 Whys, Kanban system for research and development projects for Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). Use material analysis techniques including Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermomechanical Analysis (TMA), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), and optical inspection to provide support for failure analysis requests. Participate in process optimization studies, such as Pressure Sensitive Adhesives (PSA) using lap shear studies of silicon-based adhesives for reduction of curing time. Participate in projects related to solder joint reliability and/or press-fit technology standard and high-power press-fit parts. Telecommuting permitted 2 days/week Qualified applicants must have a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Chemical engineering, Chemistry, or Materials Science or foreign equivalent. Qualified applicants must have 5 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Materials Engineer or Mechatronic Engineer in the automotive industry. Experience must include five (5) years within a global team leading technology projects, process improvements or product development. Must have experience with metals, plastics, ceramics, adhesives, elastomers, Printed Circuit Boards (PCB's) and Assembled Printed Circuit Boards (PCBA's), passive components, Integrated Circuits (IC's). Must have experience applying six sigma principles including Design of Experiments (DOE), using analysis techniques and laboratory strategies for materials including Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermomechanical Analysis (TMA), Themogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Stereoscopy, Metallographic Microscope and Universal Test Machine; using cross section, SEM, FTIR, optical scopes, thermal analysis equipment; Performing analyses using technical software. Developing new products or processes and building samples for product qualifications; carrying out investigations and leading projects for press-fit technology standard and high-power press-fit parts.
Rate of pay:
$125,653 to $131,740/year This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
