full-time Mechanical Engineer (Magnet & Cryostat Systems) Cryomagnetics, Inc. | Oak Ridge, TN | Full-time, on-site About Cryomagnetics We've built superconducting magnets and cryogenic systems in Oak Ridge for more than 40 years. Our systems end up in universities, national labs, and industrial facilities worldwide. We enable research for cyclotron resonance, ion trapping, materials science, medical devices, quantum computing, energy, gyrotron development, and more. We pioneered cryogen-free magnet systems and build nearly everything in-house, seeing projects through from design to delivery. The role This role supports the design, build, and continuous improvement of our magnet and cryostat product lines. You'll work on hardware that is already in production and on the modifications that customer orders require, regularly moving between the CAD seat and the shop floor. You'll report to the Engineering Manager and work alongside our engineering, production, and quality staff. The work rewards people who like understanding how something is actually made. Our systems are built in-house by certified craftspeople, and the engineers who do well here are the ones who remain actively engaged after the design is complete and production begins. What you'll do Produce and revise SolidWorks models and detail drawings for magnet, cryostat, and support hardware Adapt existing designs to meet customer-specific requirements and interface constraints Work with production and machining staff to resolve manufacturability issues before they reach the floor Support assembly, test, and troubleshooting of systems in progress Drive engineering changes through documentation, review, and release Contribute to root-cause investigation and corrective action on quality issues Identify and implement improvements to existing designs based on build history and customer/staff feedback Growth and tooling We invest in engineers who want to expand what they can do. You'll get exposure to superconducting magnet design, cryogenic system behavior, and precision test methods that few employers can offer, and the depth you develop is largely up to how far you push. We also encourage practical use of our internal AI tooling for design, documentation, and analysis work, within defined procedures for handling proprietary design data. Performance is reviewed at six months, at twelve months, and annually after that, with pay and responsibilities moving alongside demonstrated capability. Required High school diploma or equivalent Hands-on experience in a manufacturing or product-development environment Working proficiency in SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel Attention to detail that holds up in released drawings and customer-facing documentation Comfortable moving between design work and the shop floor Able to work on-site in Oak Ridge, TN full time Preferred Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical field SolidWorks specifically, including configurations and large assembly work Experience with cryogenics, high vacuum, or superconducting magnet systems Familiarity with GD&T, machining and fabrication practice, or dimensional inspection Exposure to ERP or MRP systems and formal engineering change control Practical LLM use in a technical context Compensation and benefits $75,000 to $90,000 annually can be expected, depending on experience and culture fit within an innovative company that values its employees, full-time exempt.
