Full Job Description Overview:
Simtek Inc. is seeking an innovative and skilled Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of lightweight, modular flight simulator systems for military aviation training. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical product design and a passion for creating rugged, deployable simulator platforms.
What You'll Do:
Design and develop structural frames and modular enclosures for high-fidelity flight simulators Create CAD models, manufacturing drawings, and documentation for fabrication and assembly Engineer ergonomic, adjustable seating systems and control mounts for different aircraft configurations (e.g. helicopter, fast jet, fixed wing) Select lightweight materials and ensure durability under heavy usage in military training environments Collaborate with electrical, software, and systems engineers to integrate hardware and avionics Support prototyping, testing, and iteration of systems from concept to production Balance portability, ease of setup, and high-fidelity performance in your designs Ensure all designs are cost-effective, manufacturable, and scalable
Must-Have Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field 3+ years of experience designing complex mechanical systems - preferably in aerospace, simulation, or defense Advanced skills in SolidWorks, CAD software Knowledge of lightweight metals, composites, and manufacturing techniques (CNC, sheet metal, welding, etc.) Ability to create fully-dimensioned drawings and BOMs for production Strong understanding of modularity and design-for-assembly principles Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
Nice-to-Have Skills:
Experience with flight simulator design, cockpit mockups, or VR training systems Familiarity with FAA, MIL-STD, or other aerospace/military design requirements Fabrication or hands-on prototyping experience Familiarity with rapid deployment solutions for field training Why Join Us?
